      Hi Don,

I have now completed the 2nd autoscan and no fault codes were detected.

I have also now changed it back from 1024 to 65535 then back to 1024 and resetted the system like Kiaorana. If TMC still doesn't work tomorrow after this, I guess I have no choice but to tell the dealer, is that right?

But you mentioned that it might be a problem with my RT version, my hardware version is H24 and software is 0241, device part number 3Q0035846. Does this help diagnose the problem?

      Thanks.

Harry: Just had a PM from Kiaorana where he said that he used his laptop with the 240Volt charger connected whilst he was doing the tweak. This explains why he was getting weird screens - because of the earth loops. It's a well known problem with some cheaper laptop power supplies (no offense intended to Kiaorana).

In your case, given that there are no error messages in the auto-scan reports and because I'm aware of lots of other folk that have successfully implemented the tweak on a MIBII, I'm tempted to believe that the problem lies with RDS on your radio, rather than TMC.

TMC uses the standard Radio Data System (RDS) that is embedded in FM stations (albeit only a few FM stations in the major cities in Australia have the TMC encryption service). Generally, RDS is responsible for providing the information displayed on FM transmissions like the name of the artist, or the song title. So, when you listen to FM stations, do you get this information displayed on your screen? You also have to enable TP on your radio menu (I assume that you have done this)

Telling the dealer about your problem most likely will do nothing - I would be very happy to be proven wrong. These tweaks are not sanction by the good Burghers at VW and I suspect that the dealer will say that TMC is not a standard feature of mk7s and perhaps they will warn you that your warranty is at risk - which is absolute nonsense!

        Don
Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

        • Hi Don,

Yup, I connected my original power pack to do the tweak tonight but no weird messages like Kiaorana.

I also do get the song information when I listen to FM stations which is what makes this all super weird. TP is also displayed at the top of the radio screen and ticked in the options therefore meaning it's enabled. And the fact that I can't install the speed camera POIs from SD card is another layer I don't even want to think about yet.

Yeah I don't have high hopes with the dealer but I am running out of ideas.

Let me know if it's better that we continue this via PM rather than overloading this thread.

Thanks for your help, Don. Really appreciate it.

          • Hi Don and Kiaorana,

My hardware version is H24 and software is 0241 according to the system information. Don is this the RT version with an issue?

My friend's R (that has TMC and speed camera POIs working) has hardware 820 and software 0611.

            Thanks.

Thanks for checking your software version when you have time, Kiaorana.

Based on my googling, the following two sites show that people with the 0241 software has had the exact same issue as me updating their POI, therefore I assume they'd have the same problem with TMC.

Since it's probably the software, do either of you know where I can obtain a version of the software that works other than from the stealer (who will probably refuse to do it)?

                Thanks in advance!

                    Hey Kiaorana,

Thanks for checking. Yup it does help, that confirms that 820 and 0611 are the magic combo cause my friend's Wolfsburg has those versions too and it all works perfectly in his car.

Someone else on another forum also has the exact problem as me and they are on my exact hardware and software version too.

Anyone have any ideas how to install a different software version on our cars?

Harry: I hate to be the harbinger of bad news, but as far as I know, the only way to update the firmware on the MIB units is via your friendly VW dealer. I would be delighted to be proven wrong!

                      • Hi. I am trying to make a tweak which will make my double U led's blink with turn signal are on. My problem is that when the headlight switch is at zero position my drl's are on, I uncheck DRL setting on the media menu and they dont go off. I guess they changed it to staticly on at a garage that I went ones. It is hard for me to contact them, so those anybody know how to turn of drls when light switch is at zero position. It was only on when the light switch was in auto position. thanks in advance.

Dark975: Istanbul? Wow you are a long way from home!!

First, my appology because I don't entirely understand your question (but your English is a lot better than my Turkish).

Are you just wanting the DRLs to not operate at all? Is this what you mean by asking if there is a way of turning -off DRLs with the light switch on zero position? If so, then I'm surprised that removing the tick on the MENU hasn't worked. Something strange about this, because it's how I do it on my mk7.

The other thing that you could try is to change the adaptation channel ( 8 )-Daytime running lights-Fahrlicht bei Tag to not active (the default setting is "Daytime running lights")

But the second part of my question is - instead of permanently turning off DRLs, do you want to implement "DRL wink"? This is where the DRL turns-off on the side of the car that the turn indicator blinks and then turns on again when the turn indicator stops.

If you want to implement DRL wink, then you need to include the setting Blinken links aktiv (beide Phasen) into the left DRL Leuchte-set and Blinken rechts aktiv (beide Phasen) into the right side DRL Leuchte-set. It's difficult for me to suggest the actual adaptation channel in your case because I'm not familiar with your headlight assembly, but when you find a spare alpha channel that isn't being used, include the changes that I suggest above and you should also ensure that the related "Dimmwert" setting is 0 and that the corresponding "Dimming Direction" channel is "minimise.

                          Cheers
                          Don

No, I want them to operate on Auto position, but not in zero position. I am also surprised the DRL tick does not work. It might be about some other coding done on the car I guess.

I can try this but this I am afraid this might close them for all times.

The above link show what I am exactly trying to do. Here is the coding I did, but DRL's were never off when the turn indicators were on. I will go over them again today.

IF you want the DRLs to illuminate only if the rotary light-switch is on Auto position, I assume that you have seen the web sites for this tweak (there are many sites with the instructions)

Using your way of describing tweak instructions, the change is :

                              09 – Centrale Electrique] -> [Security Access – 16] 31347 -> [Adaptation – 10] -> « (9)-Daytime running lights-Tagfahrlicht nur in Schalterstellung AUTO-> select « active »

As for your video with the DRLs flashing out of sync with the turn indicators, I personally would have used the Dunkelphase command with Dimmwert=100 and Dimming Direction = Maximise (instead of Hellphase with 0/minimise settings).

To analyse what's happening on your car, you need to tell me what the settings are for the full Leuchte-set for the Left/Right DRls. There will be 19 x adaptation channels for each lamp. Can you post them up somewhere where I can see them - please?
                              Cheers
