Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I had a B series RNS510 — it didn't care whether it had a CD or DVD, so maybe the burn is faulty.

The V7 map i have is 697MB so will have trouble fitting on a CD Also you could be correct Write with IMG burn as slow as possible

        ^^^this.

Always check the .iso file size before committing to the burn process.

        • Ok, so I downloaded some iso burner software and tried again with another (my third!) CD-R and then put it into the RNS510.

Viola, it works! So obviously there was a problem with my burn. Now time to turn my attention to the RVC...

One further question. When I checked the set-up information it said that my map version HDD was 8035? Does that equate to V7, or something else?

            Yes. 8035=AU/NZ v7

            • So I just bought a Jetta with the RNS 510, and am trying to work out what the go with my head unit is.

At the risk of sounding stupid; I've done some research through the forums and looked at all the different part numbers. As best I can tell they all start #t and end with the country code (680).

              Mine is a tad different:
              Delivery Part Number: 1K8035680
              HW Version: H05
              SW Version: 6276
Map Coverage: Australia + New Zealand
              Map Supplied: Sensis
              Map Version HDD: 7920

Am I missing something here or doing something wrong?

Apologies in advance if I've missed a post here.

EDIT:: I'm aware I took this info from the radio "secret menu", but I couldn't get the head unit to go the the second secret menu. Just in case that's relevant.

              • 7920 is V6 latest is V8 Are you sure about the SW no as 5238 is latest most are running

However if its a brand new car it could be right and have the latest DAB+ board in it

Doubtless Kamold will come on and get it right for me

                • I believe a tweak to the firmware CD enabled the second secret menu. You could pry the plastic fascia off and remove the T20 screws and pull the head unit out to reveal all he various ID numbers on the sticker. Or wait for kamold
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

                  • That's a brand new ssd based unit. You can enable secret menu with vcds.

                            • Just a quick follow up guys.

The dealership I bought my car from is telling me that I already have the latest maps and that everything is up to date.

They also told me they updated the headunit software, but they've indicated they flashed the version I already had.

This obviously flies in the face of what you guys have said. I just wanted to check with you all as I don't really trust my dealership :/

Thanks in advance for any help

                                this.
In respect of dealerships and their knowledge and resources for the RNS, like John Snow in G.o.T. they "know nothing".

For firmware, they do not have the resources, nor do they know how to apply them.
