You're stuck without RDS unless you want to roll the dice and hope that 4120 doesn't kill your radio board.

So I have had success replacing the drive and loading the firmware (3810) and maps. I haven't rolled the dice just yet as I want to get it coded and see if I'm happy with everything first.....again thanks for your help Kamold.

What ssd did you go for? I had a hard time finding a ide ssd for a reasonable price. OCZ has something for older Macs but $$$

So I tried to roll the dice with 4120 but I get SWL Error. I have tried burning it again but same issue which I don't get with the older 3xx. I assume the radio wont allow it or the iso I have is no good....

Radio won't stop you. Just can't read the CD.

Ive tried another fresh download and burnt it the same as the other software that works fine and still get the same error.

Burn it on a DVD with imgburn at no more than 4 speed

So thanks to the link Kamold sent me I downloaded 5238, it loaded fine and tested ok and I now have RDS....getting the coding done tomorrow so I'm very happy with the outcome. Thanks for every ones help....

please confirm. You have a 1T0 035 680 B HW004 with radio board 0003, and its successfully running 5238? So no dab isn't a show stopper?

Its not the no DAB that is the issue.
Older radio boards use a different flash chip which is more susceptible to premature death by flashing.
Can be done at your own risk

Yes I can confirm that I have a 1T0 035 680 B HW004 with radio board 0003, and its successfully running 5238. It loaded fine and everything is working including RDS.

I have a 2011 B7 Passat.
The RNS510 doesn't show in the secret menu its firmware version. Only shows the AM/FM radio manager settings. I don't have a cable to interrogate the computer so I'm guessing the only way I can see what firmware version the unit is sitting on is to open the thing up and look at the sticker.

Question though is, how? How do I get about getting at the unit? Is there a guide showing me potentially what tools I'll need which will let me get the covering surround off without damaging the clips so I can unscrew and look at the sticker?
