    Delivert PArt Number 1T0035680D
    HW-VErsion H55
    DW Version 3970
    Map Version HDD 7679

How do I go about upgrading this unit. I don't have any maps CD. Also what will be the benefits of upgrading the firmware.
Not a lot but from the OP follow instructions to get 5238 firmware and buy a $55 V8 map. Dont ask for copies. You need a DVD for firmware and follow instructions.

    • Just updated the firmware to 5238 from 4120 on my D model. That went OK, but no maps. Tried to load new v.8 map disc. Wouldn't load maps, and no info on the screen. Tried rebooting, but no good.

When I zoomed out the map scale to 700km I found that Europe could be seen as a deep purple colour and the oceans were all black. That's why I said i thought I had a black screen. Weird.

I'm trying to find a working link to go back to 4120 with the 95/5/5 partitions. Can't find the disc I burnt a couple of years ago anywhere.

As always, any help much appreciated.

      • You shouldnt have lost the map Go for a drive and let it reorient itself If that doesnt work load an older map disk and if that loads then load V8
You cant load the same map over itself I found that out last year

Thanks Hillbilly. I just got out my v.7 maps, and was going to try to load that disc, but I'll try the drive first.... In the morning.

          • Just need a GPS signal top reorient the system. At worst have seen it take up to an hour. Driving around shouldnt take more than a few mins.

            • Hillbilly/ Kamold/ FJ Steve, Thanks for the input. I drove around a bit this morning and eh voila! The fully functional mapping appeared on the screen.

I bought the car with v.3 maps ( not long before v.4 came out of course), and have updated every new version. It says something about either my ailing memory as to why I didn't recognise what was going on, or that it's that long between VW map updates I can be forgiven for not remembering the procedures. Or maybe a little of both.

Anyhow, thanks guys. I do truly always appreciate the help.

              • Gents - Forgive my lack of investigating this firmware upgrade. I have the RNS510 Columbus in my 11' Skoda superb. Will this firmware upgrade allow me to play other video files (mp4, avi etc) other than iso. I can only view?

                • No. You're 2 main options for videos are to (1) author your own DVD each time, or (2) install a Red/White/Yellow AV cable to RNS adaptor (connects to the back of the unit where a reversing camera normally would) - you'll find them on eBay. Of course then there's option (3) which is to install a new non-OEM head unit.

                    • Yep, it's just worth pulling out your RNS/Columbus and double-checking that it has the reversing camera plug before buying. There were some RCD510 (non sat-nav) variants that didn't, for example.

                      • All Rns510/Columbus units have 26pin multimedia connectors.

                        • So in order to install a RVC I was given a usb with 4020 firmware and V7 maps to burn on to CDs and load onto my RNS510.( I was told I had old firmware that wouldn't support an RVC and V5 maps.

The firmware loaded ok but my maps didn't. I got that clamp state message and reset my clock to 24 hour mode and it did seem to install ok.

But at the end when I tried to hit the map button it told me to insert map dvd, which I did and it came up with the clamp state message again.

I checked the set up and I've got no maps at all.

What have I done wrong? Is there a problem with my V7 map disc?

                            • So it seems somehow, embarrassingly, that I burned the 4020 firmware to both CDs! Doh! I have now burned the V7 maps to a CD-R. The RNS510 tells me to insert a DVD and comes up with an error when I load my CD-R. So should I burn the V7 to a blank DVD? I'll give that ago and see how I go....

You have answered your own question. If it asks for a DVD its logical that it needs one
