Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Don't get me wrong, my Polo is great... but it has no zazz... no heart.
Compared to my old Mx5, sure the Polo is quicker in a straight line.... but the Mx5 just oozed personality. Same with the WRX I had before that.
As I describe the Polo to my partner, it just doesn't have a soul.Last edited by break; 29-04-2010, 09:39 AM.Previous Rides: Polo GTI, Mx5 10AE, MY05 WRX WRP10, Renault Sport Clio 172

Have you been in Anthony's Polo? I think the stock Polo and a chipped Polo on good suspension are 2 completely different cars. Hopefully I'll get to prove this at a track day soon.
I went for a little drive the other day with my tyres on a good handling pressure rather than a soft, comfortable pressure. The thing flew to say the least. I was tailing a bike for a few kms and I think he was a little frustrated by not being able to pull away in the twisties.
I loved my little Polo before, but with the widened stance (or wider wheels, or heavier wheels) the thing just nails corners. It has to be a love affair as any upgrades and even maintaining the little beast is not cheap...
Each to their own, but if you don't love it, sell it and get what you want...

I don't know what it is, but the Polo just doesn't have an X-factor like other cars have. For example, the Clio Sport definitely has it (and not because it handles better, it's just much more alive... as much as it has many downfalls, it just feels like a pet dog, as opposed to the robot feeling of the Polo).
And yes, the point you make... if I don't love it I should sell it, well... that's the plan... eventually. In the meantime the Polo is filling the job of 'cheap but fun car while I sort out my property portfolio' after which the Polo will retire and be replaced with an Evo (XI by then I hope).Previous Rides: Polo GTI, Mx5 10AE, MY05 WRX WRP10, Renault Sport Clio 172

Maybe you need to change your music tastes ... you can always add some soul !

I personally love my polo I think it has heaps of character and soul despite the flaws, and if I had the money I would do many a stupid things to it that would not be "cost effective" over buying something more capable like the WRX.... worse still what I would spend on my slow arse GLD mk1 before forking out for a Mx5 which is a great handling car but looks like half a dildo on wheels.
Don't get me wrong I'd drive the **** out of them if I found myself on some nice twisties and was give a chance but sure as hell wouldn't invest any time, money or emotion in owning one.... on the other hand that EVO you are talking about ...well thats a totally different story.
just saying soul/x-factor you feel is lacking in one car isn't necessarily lacking for someone else.
and expect to butt heads when you mention that in a forum about said carOriginally posted by Preen59It doesn't matter what car you drive.. If you're a complete wanker.. People still won't want to talk to you..

Horses for courses.... my opinion is certainly not the common opinion here on a forum about the said modelI still think its a great car (hence why I bought it... it was the best car for the price/performance/size/age etc. that I was after), but just not the car that I'll look back as being the most lovable I've owned.
But it's interesting to see just what cars we do get attached to. Beyond our first car (which is a given, everyone loves their first car no matter how horrible it was.... and my 1982 Celica Hatchback was most certainly a bucket of excrement, but one that I still love to this day), it's fairly random what we get attached to the most out of our cars.Last edited by break; 29-04-2010, 03:17 PM.Previous Rides: Polo GTI, Mx5 10AE, MY05 WRX WRP10, Renault Sport Clio 172
