Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

To expand on what you said.
There are two options for the Polo with stock turbo. Stage 1 V1 and Stage 1 V2. These are different VERSIONS, not different stages!
Stage 2 is, as I said, a different ECU flash software combined with at least a downpipe.
Stage 3 is with the K04 Turbo upgrade.

As I said, this is all confirmed on the link to the APR website in my previous post
    Actually you are both correct!!

Noone with the old APR website there was Stage I with flash only
Then there was the K04 upgrade (not classed as a 'Stage' on the site just an upgrade.)
The Exhaust was a new product then and did not carry a 'Stage' title either.
Stage III was the full Garrett Turbo upgade with a GT28 from memory.
And Stage III+ was the same kit but with a Garrett GT28Rs.

So you are right from an old school perspective.

coreying from the new website you are also correct however my understaning of the full exhaust tune is to delete the rear
o2 sensor and not to change the mapping. Guy is your best bet to confirm that.

    Anthony.

    • Thanks Anthony.

And don't get me wrong, I'm not staying that the software for the Stage II upgrade on the Polo GTI (for the exhaust) does anything to add power.... what I was originally replying to was this:

So I was stating that the turbo upgrade is Stage 3.

Even if the old website didn't list that as in stage 3, the conventions are always stage 1 software, stage II exhaust and intakes, stage III turbo...

        • Sounds Good.

I'm not really fussed what its all called, the point is re: SSman's comment about Phase 2 software, he would have to look at other brands.

15/18 max peak, where as before it would throw 20/23 peak

              • Yeah I am only getting 17.5-18 peak, now i have my boost problem fixed

Was thinking about doing a manual boost controller to try and squeeze a few more psi out of it, everyone on Vortex seems to do it in the states on their 1.8T's

Would be nice to see a 20-22psi peak, I have heard the revo software does this

                • this really has me in a strange state of mind, thinking dump pipe and a Garrett gt28r. I always said that I wouldn't need to change turbo but this mod (fmic) has been a huge disappointment and will need big air to make it right in my opinion.

                  • Was at the shops today looking for aero wipers refil for my polo gti. Could not find the model number in the book. I was looking at some BOSCH ones. Has anybody on here changed the wipers before and got the model numbers.

                      • VW do replacement wipers that slide into the existing holders. They come with blades, and end caps, and cost $24 for the front pair when I got them.

Something like this looks good, that price includes intercooler
Kinetic Motorsport: KINETIC MOTORSPORT MKIV 1.8T STG2 TURBO KIT

They also have RP turbo GT28's

If I had the $$ I would do it

                            • The Forge FMIC does chew up a few PSI. On the upside, although you are showing less PSI, that air is likely much cooler most of the time.

I was rough-quoted about 7k to get the GT28 on with all the required bits. No doubt sourcing all the gear yourself could prove to be much cheaper.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with a bog turbo. Its not the car for it.

One thing I've been thinking of is if we get a Forge core and give it to a company like PWR, they should be able to make up another cooler to bolt onto the other Forge piping. If we had a donor and enough interested people, it could work out to be relatively cheap.

                              ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In relation to a MBC, depending on how you do it, you can end up with poor partial throttle boost. I think this would add only a little boost and make the car harder to drive in slow traffic. The dual stage design looks the best option. Personally I think the K03s is making all the boost it should, you're not really going to be able to get much more from it.

                              • I always laugh when you lot talk about turbo upgrades. That's thousands I'd much rather put aside to buy something properly fast, rather than a 'hot hatch' with some BIG limitations (no LSD standard, very nose heavy, tiny turbo etc.) requiring big cash to swap out.

Horses for courses... but still... you guys make me lol
