Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • If you want soul and fun, AW11 MR2! I've got a supercharged one sitting sadly in my carport undriven for around 6 months now

Most fun car I've ever driven by far, it's like a gokart.

Prefer driving the Polo day to day though, so much more refined and comfy

Yes just got it back from Jimmy..

I had a FMIC, all the silcon hoses, strut brace and superchip software uploaded. Basically just shy of Stage 2 now - it just needs an exhaust solution. (It looks like the group buy for exhausts has gone quiet). I am really happy with the suspension - it handles great with the sways, springs and bilstiens. The strut brace made a much bigger difference than I expected - it feels a lot more planted and the steering is meater. It is so accurate.

Early days with superchips but I have to say that I am really pleased. It certainly woke the car up. Where I used to dip into throttle to get the boost happening - now I find that I have the boost and I am lifting. Third gear is off the leash. The torque is demonic when you get it loaded up on the boost. Glad I had upgraded the brakes.

Jimmy has asked superchip to have another look at the software and give it a bit more or a touch up (Stage 1.5ish)

Keen to get it out on the track and give it a proper run.

In terms of future mods the exhaust is next on the list. Maybe a camber caster kit - I cannot imagine that the current stock clutch is going to last long.

I promise to start a proper build thread for blue meanie soon

        • I've removed my centre console and glovebox in an attempt to find some of the creaks in the dash area. Interior is in parts for the time being.

Thinking I will change the colour of the console and airvent surrounds while I have it all out... Now what colour...

          • Well for now many of my dash rattles have dissapeared. My Polo is not going to be completely quiet with the way its set up, but reveaving a few of the creaks that were easily caused by uneven road have been banished, I'm hoping for good.

Dash respray came out well, I'll put a few pics up later.

              • My APR R1 Diverter Valve came in from the US last week, installed it over the weekend. Still seem to get a bit of rollercoaster boost with 3rd gear full throttle, but turbo lag has reduced and tis feeling more responsive (by the seat of my pants)

Think I'm done with the performance mods for the polo.. I think.. :p

Really need to get some better sound out of the speakers- amp + sub

                  • REVO Stage 2 is in. Boost 7, Timing 7, Fuel 8. Spirited runs have shown noticeable increase in torque. Power not sure yet as I need to drive more to find out.

                      • New spark plugs. Gone with NGK BKR7E's, a little colder to OEM.

I've wanted to check my plugs for a while, finally got around to buying the bits, thought for an extra < $20 I may as well change them.
I had some timing pull on one cylinder occasionally, even at close to idle rpm. The old plugs were pretty good, one of them had a little carbon buildup, but nothing obviously wrong with them.

Car seems to idle more smoothly and over time seems to be a little tighter in coming on boost, any changes to performance will work around the natuaral adaptation of the ECU, so have to wait and see if there is any real change. For the few $, its good insurance.

From the NGK site, it appears that BKUR6ET is equavalent to stock, and (logically) BKUR7ET is one range colder - theoretically better for chipped motors. Was this the advice you got? I'm about to change also and want to try a colder plug.
