  • some good chiptuners can remove the N249 valve out of the ECU system.
if you just disconnect it you may get a error.
or you can bypass them with resistors, works most of the time.

ps: VW thunder: verry nice engine bay!

    • Last night I finally got around to running the Subaru Upper Engine Cleaner through the Polo.

Wow, what a difference that made. It's revving a little more freely an idling smoother. Definitely recommended for the $18 it cost me for the can.

      • Ive used it on a few boxsters that had zero compression due to carbon. This is the stuff for that, its really good gear.

              • I was thinking of getting some of those and doing HID's, but they are not cheap, over $400?

Where did you get the battery cover from

Some were delivered with it, some weren't. IT was a lottery.

I bought mine from this seller cpk1997 (eBay item number 290366299505 and that's the seller), and sourced the HID locally, they are just an eBay set but I like having the local warranty.

The battery cover was with the car when I bought it. I guess you could try wreckers to find one, it does finish the engine bay off a bit nicer I guess.

Do you happen to have a part number? What is the process for using the product, you mentioned using one of the vac lines?

No part number, just turn up to Subaru spare parts and ask for the upper engine cleaner.

I pulled the vac line to the N249, you can slide it off with a bit of force. Just follow the directions on the can to do it (you will need a 2nd person to hold the throttle up a little to prevent the car from stalling during the process).

But yeah, be prepared for LOTS of white smoke out of your exhaust.

                          • Subaru Upper End Cleaner - Do you do this as a part of oil change or can you do it anytime? Mines done about 60K. How many had yours done Break?

Subaru's were meant to get this done at every second service interval if I recall correctly (so 20,000km). No harm in doing it every 10,000km. It breaks down the carbon deposits. And yup, it'll be smoke but don't stress, doing exactly what it's meant too. No sure I'd be doing it on the VW if it's not required/advised to do so. That's just my opinion, not an educated opinion (on the VW front).

From what I'm reading it should be done just prior to an oil change (and pending when my parts arrive, I intend on doing my 60k service this weekend).

Subaru's do this every service, but it's more due to the nature of their flat four engines and how they have a tendancy for carbon deposits. So yeah, as Sean said above... you can do it up to every service interval if you feel so inclined.
