Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Pulling out my MAF last night and cleaned it in an isopropyl alcohol solution (ie. zip bag full of the stuff, then shaken around to remove oil/contaminants from the filaments).

Not sure if it's done anything... did feel smoother idling this morning but that could have been the placebo effect.

Edit: Also picked up new vacuum lines to replace a few that are looking worn.

      • I had my Polo GTI in for it's 30k service today. Had them look at a creaking sound in the right rear of the car that I could constantly hear whilst driving. Turns out to be the rear shock mounts. They've gotta order them in from Singapore, and I'll have to take it back to have them swapped over. All under warranty so all good

If your line to your Fuel pressure reg is leaking then you will get more fuel and not less. It wont ping with that. Fuel is crap here and if its intermittant then i could be just the fuel. Have it scanned to see how much timing is being pulled by the ecu. And of coarse have the thing smoke tested, cant stress the smoke test enough, if it doesnt leak then you have NO secondary air.

              • Going back to the weekend, lubed the bushes on the whiteline front sway. Moving freely again, felt like it was binding...

                  • Secondary air is unmeasured air that enters the engine via a split hose, leaking gasket etc. The maf measures what comes in, any air unmeasured is secondary air, and is mixture enemy number 1!!!

Nice, let us know what the 'comfort' is like. I have H&R springs on, and although it's perfect for height, and great on track days... (as not as undulated, or rough with change of cambers everywhere), I would like to at some stage upgrade for something with good comfort. I think even stock I thought was reasonably hard. Is coil over the only way to get 'reasonable comfort' at lower stance?

                          • Picked up some parts (pollen filter, oil filter, sump plug and gearbox oil) from Jmac to do my 60k service (I've already done plugs, MAF clean, upper engine cleaner and air filter). Thanks again Jimmy!

Still waiting on my 17mm hex socket to arrive from the UK before I can do the gearbox oil though... but will do the pollen filter and engine oil on Sunday never-the-less.
