Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

wow that's a pretty bad list for that many k's, it seems to be a common occurrence in the current Polo's.

      • Bought some new rims:

        Ebay bargain.

Not sure if I want to onsell for a few $$$ and go ahead with my original plan white Diablo's) or if they will go on and it will be pretty unique.

I was driving yesterday morning next to a chick in a black polo with these rims. Didn't look too bad. She was a bit of a lead foot haha

            • Finally got my car back from colour coding of the lowers front, rear and side skirts. Looks much better and more complete. However i suppose its very hard to match the colour of the body 100% due to texturing of the plastic skirts. Colour coding seems to be a bit lighter in colour than the body at the moment. Hopefully its because of the fact that the car is filthy at the moment. Hopefully after the wash, the colour matches better.

Now that the colour coding is complete, next is getting the Bilstein B8's with H&R springs fitted on Monday and then the 17" Exor STP wheels fitted on Tuesday. After that, depending on how I feel about the handling, I might even go for the front and rear whiteline sway bars.

The only problem now is that i can't fit the list of mods I've done to date in the user signature below.

              • Why wouldn't the paint match ? Surely they would use the VW colour codes and the paint would be an exact match ? Or is not as simple as that ?

                Comment

                • Aparently its more complicated than that particularly when the plastic parts are textured and the shades of silver can vary between vehicles of the same make and model (as I was told). Type of primer used can also make a difference too Much easier when matching plain colours such as black, red and white.
Anyway, although I would prefer it to be perfect, I can't be bothered going back and forth getting it painted and repainted just to end up with the same result since I got it done at half the price of what other body shops have quoted me. A similar thing happened to our pearlescent purple paint on our Honda Odyssey when the front bumper had to be repainted
Suppose I gotta live with it but from far away, its not too bad.

Not going to 18"s any more?

Got my Siatas and some rubber yesterday.

Think I'm getting the knocking sound from the drop links, have to add that one to my list...

                    • Nah, too many hassles with possible fitment and rubbing issues not to mention the increased cost being a pain if things don't happen as expected. Best for me to keep the wheels a factory option since that way everything will fit perfectly and don't have to worry about resale problems with aftermarket wheels. Also had a thought about all the country driving I do so 18" may be too harsh and road noise horrendous.

P.S. Those wheels look good on your car noone. Great job.

Put 16mm spacers on the back wheels.. perfect amount of poke, will do the fronts once i get enough new bolts for it.
I did this thursday but was waiting to see if anyone got an arse shot of my car on the phootshoot before posting.

                        • I knew they'd fit, just had other plans...

The extra width and reduced offset have brought them out just that little bit more to look like they are the right wheel.

Don't tempt me with the spacers, I thought I was getting toward the end of my list!

                              • Claybarred the whole car.....and god damn it makes a huge difference!

I just bought the $30 Meguiars Clay Bar Kit from Supercheap and I was pretty pleased with it. My car was covered in tar and it easily got every last little bit off.
