Nice choice!, I have them in the Gti, they are very solid and great quality.

One thing I would suggest is to use both original springs and the springs S2T supplied. The paddles are quite heavy so need heavier rated springs to "pop them back" so to speak.

    • Well news is half good and half bad.

Good news is the exhaust and new CAI are going on. Will have new sound clips soon. Plus springs arrived today too.

Bad news is the big bad ass FMIC for the Golf GTI/R is too big to fit into the Tig so we'll have to go for plan B for this. Probably don't need it until going BT anyway.

Though it's quite quiet at highway/cruising speeds.

I'll get a clip up on the weekend.

        • Well that is a bit annoying, i thought for sure the GTI fmic should fit given it is the same 2.0TSI.
Keen to hear the exhaust clip!

Yes the FMIC that VAR are putting in the Golf is a larger unit than the S3 style. Apparently it's too big to fit in the Tig due to the shape of the car up front.

All the aftermarket FMIC's are about 1-2cm thicker than the S3 alloy intercooler. Mine is 55mm thick. How thick is the VAR version?

If the thick ones wont fit, put the S3 cooler in and do water injection - the water injection will do a much better job than any intercooler can. Water injection is my next mod.

I think the problem is that it is a deeper unit (and possibly thicker).

There's just not enough vertical space to fit it in.

Ahh ok my bad - i thought you meant that it was too thick. But your saying that its to tall for the Tig?

APR Unit fits in perfectly - and it's almost twice the thickness of the original - all the mounting points are identical to the GTI / S3/ A3/ Octavia. The only mod we have to do is lengthen the hoses that attach it to the engine. Are you sure you are dealing with someone who has actually tried to test fit one into a Tiguan?

I can't be 100% as I wasn't there but was told that the VAR inter cooler hangs down lower which is fine in the Golf but in the Tig this ends up hitting the plastics on the bodywork.

I was told they had the front of my car off to look at fitting it and also that there is difference between the facelift Tig and first gen but this is not from first hand experience.

                        • We have fitted them to early & the late versions - the lower bit locates into two holes in the radiator support - it's identical to the Golf, so that cannot be an issue at all.

                          • OK here's the audio clip. Probably doesn't give a true indication how loud this is - system is non-resonated.

This was a cool morning and the first 60 seconds the auto-choke is active. After that it quietens down... and then a couple of revs with a pop.

Here's a photo from under the rear of the car.

You can drive it quietly around town - drive it in "D" and keep the revs under 2,500rpm and it's relatively docile.

However give it a boot load and it is pretty loud.

I have done about 1,000km of highway driving and there is no drone in the exhaust. You can certainly hear the exhaust note while cruising but it isn't intrusive. There is a fair amount of noise when overtaking and going up hills it is certainly louder than stock.

I'm still waiting for it to soot up completely (1,500-2,000km) and after that it should be pretty much how it's going to be.

...though still considering getting a resonator fitted as I do use the car for business.

Just a word of caution on installing any old CAI. The ECU is pretty sensitive with air flows and aftermarket CAI's can upset them (speaking from recent experience). I changed my CAI recently from one design to another this and caused all sorts of issues. Ended up reverting back to the stock intake and this fixed things.
