  • Did you by chance drive the car with only the DP? no tune

I wouldnt mind the dump pipe if it helps to give it more power down low but not really a fan of getting it if it only performs better once its been tuned.... Although i know it wouldnt gain everything it can without the tune, surely the stock ECU would be capable of compensating enough to make some difference

I am not after a race car, i just want to try and remove some of that damn dead spot down low

Not much point in only doing a downpipe, the gains would be next to nothing as you say. It's not the way to go, either get a tune or do the downpipe and tune. The packages they are offering are really good value.

No sorry only had the DP with tune. In fact every tuner says you need a new tune file as soon as you change the DP so I don't think you'd be well advised to just change the DP. Basically the DP affects the way the turbo operates/spools up so the tune must match up to the DP you install.

Turbocharged engines will always have a flat spot low down before the turbo spools up - just a nature of the beast. So the only thing you can really control is what gear you are in.

As you're running a DSG one mod I did do which I'd highly recommend to any other DSG Tig owner is to install a flappy paddle steering wheel. That way you can downshift if you need to without having to take your hands off the wheel. Much easier that grabbing for the stick to put in "S" or trying to flick across into manual mode and then downshift at the same time.

In fact now that I have the DSG paddles I probably drive with them 80% of the time.

I use "S" mode with cruise control on the highway for instant accelleration when overtaking. If I'm trundling around with the family that's when I use "D". Most other times I use manual mode as it's much more satisfying to drive that way.

And the Tig will never be race car - more like a "stealth" hot hatch.

        • I had the pleasure of riding in this car today and geez does it feel quick even minus a few future goodies.

The under bonnet treatments/CAI look the business and while there is induction noise at certain times it is not intrusive at all, at least in my opinion. So much so that I now feel confident moving forward on some Viezu/VAR gear of my own.

Massive thanks to tigger73 for wasting some of his weekend on catching up with me, he has my early nomination for Bloke of the Year if such an award exists.

I'll be very interested in seeing where this goes once further mods and tunes are done.

Hey not a problem Dutch77. I know it's pretty hard trying to make a decision on which path to head down with tunes/hardware just by reading forum posts and info from various manufacturers/suppliers. Nothing like seeing/hearing the hardware in the flesh.

The new hardware passed the "wife test" as it didn't interfere with her listening to her favourite "doof doof" radio station so all is good.

            • That's a pretty quick 0 to 60 time for an SUV
The question is, are you going to do the Octavia also?

Yes and that time is without L.C. - just put the pedal flat and be nice to the DSG.

I reckon my Tig would give a stock Octavia RS a run for it's money.

Not sure my wife would be too keen on an Octy though - doesn't like wagons.

                      No question about that
The stock Octavia VRS hatch in Euro tune does 7.5 sec 0 to 60
We are a tad down on tune due to our fuel and the wagon is a tad heavier
I was doing ~6.75 with stage 1 (about a second faster than stock)
I have not timed stage 2 as yet (really need a clean start to put the power down)

Yes that's the challenge with FWD cars - GTI also starts spinning wheels once it's tuned and gets worse the more you do to it.

That's where the Tig has a distinct advantage being AWD is much quicker off the line (despite the extra weight) though top end is lower due to the aero effect of a brick.

Even better news, it definitely passed the "wife test" on my end - "oh.. that noise.. is that all?"

Suggest you get onto Simon at Viezu (sales@viezuaustralia.com.au). I think they're waiting for all hardware to be ready to "release" it together as a complete kit.

However, I know they can do DP's right now and they will have full exhausts really soon (just waiting on the next shipment to land).

The CAI and FMIC are still not quite there as a "kit". The CAI needs a little bracket to mount the washer bottle filler and the FMIC needs some silicone hoses for fitting.

Though I'm sure if you hassled him he'd sell you the kit for Mk6 Golf and you could adapt it (or do what I've done and tuck the washer filler tube out of the way).

So at the moment it's down to silly stuff like hoses and brackets which are holding up the release. All the major bits are in place though.

If enough people give him a hard time (i.e. pre-orders) then they'll have to get the last bits finalised so they can start shipping kits out the door.

                              • So I'm part way through sorting out the issues with the front sway bar and anti-lift kit.

Just so everyone's clear about what we're talking about it's the following parts:

Whiteline X-heavy duty front sway bar: BWF20XZ

                                Whiteline Anti-Lift Kit: KCA316

These parts were professionally fitted onto my 2011 125TSI - much bigger job than I'd attempt as the whole engine sub-frame has to be dropped to get the front sway bar in. Then a wheel alignment was done as the ALK changes the geometry of the front end.

Now since this time I've been working with the guys at Whiteline and the local Pedders who are the Whiteline dealer (wish I'd found this out earlier as I would have got them to fit the bar) to sort out the fitment issues.

Since the first post, I've had the washers taken out from under the mounts for the front sway bars and links put in to move the sway bar away from the lower suspension arms. This has meant the tailshaft no longer makes contact with the sway bar (makes an awful racket when it happens).

I've also had the anti-lift kit removed and stock unit re-installed as the housing for the Whiteline ALK did not fit properly. When bolted to the chassis rail there was about 5mm space between the mount and the subfame which had to be spaced out with washers.

The car has now had another wheel alignment done to correct for putting the old lower control arm bushes back on.

So two steps forwards one step back at the moment...

Steering is noticeably lighter now, but doesn't turn in anywhere near as well as before with the ALK on.
