  • Hi can you tell me the part number of the steering wheel please that you used? I need to know which ones will fit the Tig as these often come up on ebay with part numbers.

Installed some S2T Flappy Paddle Shifters onto my steering wheel this morning (lowering springs are in too but I'll need to wash the car before taking any photos).

Looks great but will need a little bit of getting used to as there is a little less clearance than with the standard shifters.

I actually don't know if I have this informatio. Do you know if it's marked on the wheel?

All I know is that it's from a Mk 6 Golf R with red stitching. It's the same as the GTI one with the flat bottom and requires a new airbag also if you're replacing the standard issue Tiguan wheel.

Mine came from carsystems.pl Suggest getting the airbag with it.

Anything that fits into a Mk6 Golf will fit on the Tiguan, but make sure it's Mk6 not Mk7 as I don't think that these will work.

      • From a Mk6 Golf R with red stitching? It looks like a GTI wheel to me (red stitching and silver inserts) but with the R logo in the bottom spoke.

The R wheel has grey stitching and black inserts.

        Not that it really matters.

This steering wheel was bought from overseas so I'm not sure what colour combinations they have in other countries.

You're right about Australian market though - the GTI has the silver inserts and the R is black so doesn't meet Aussie "spec".

... but then again half my car is non-standard anyway

No worries - i wasn't saying that it didn't look good (infact i much prefer the GTI wheel with the silver inserts and colourful stitching over the R's wheel anyway...which just looks dull in comparison) quite the opposite actually, but every R i have ever seen has the black inserts and grey stitching.

It's a lovely wheel to hold and use - perfect dimensions and shape etc. Love it.

When I bought it there weren't a lot around so you had to take what you could get as far as colours and badging but I'm really happy with the silver trim with silver paddles.

Purists will say that I don't have an R but then I don't have a GTI either so it's a bit of a moot point. I guess I could get a blank badge to keep everyone happy

                • Don't worry about purists - 99% of the world wouldn't know its not how the car came. Its a huge improvement over the stock Tig wheel anyway.

As for whether its an R or a GTI, well its a bit of both so go with whatever you prefer.

                  • My steering wheel looks identical to the one above with the red stitching only that mine has grey stitching. I have a Tiguan R Line so I have the flat bottom MFSW with the silver inserts and R badge. I'm guessing that I can then use my airbag with a steering the same as in that picture and then simply code in using vcds? No other parts necessary like updated slip ring?

                    • This was a straight bolt off bolt on job and then enable the bit in VCDS for the paddles for me.

I would check your steering wheel first to see if you have holes for mounting paddle shifters. If this is the case you may be able to use your existing wheel and just buy the paddles from bold-sport or similar.

If not just check that the physical shape of airbag and mounting clips are the same between the old and new steering wheels and you should be fine. There are a couple of ways these airbags attach and obviously you have to get the airbag with clips that match the steering wheel mounting points.

I can't believe they didn't put paddles into the R-line...

I've done the other interior trims - upgraded the mirror and window switches. Probably should have got this at the same to to save on shipping.
