Just jump under the car and have a look to see if the swaybar links are broken. If they have come loose or somehow snapped then they will certainly be making some noise while driving.
Most modern VW swaybar end links are made of plastic, so might be time to get some aftermarket replacements...

Good to hear they got the main issue sorted with the steering immobiliser. Unfortunately machined wheels that are used on a lot of cars these days are easy to damage, and due to the fact they are machined (put on a lathe to cut that shiny section of the rim) they are quite expensive to have repaired...

Great result and what a cool little runabout for $4500. What are your plans with it? Will you sell it or keep it do you think?
Wheels turned out nicely too - very handy to know someone who has painting skills.

Chances are both faults are unrelated so best to treat them as separate issues for the time being. Gearbox fault is obviously more worrying and therefore more important. With some luck you just need the gearbox temperature sensor replaced as it sounds like it has either been damaged or has just failed....

It is certainly sad. I think the vast majority of us users are around a similar age group (40-60yrs old). The move to Facebook is convenience, lazyness and age group related in my opinion.
Convenience - they are already looking on Facebook and other social media anyway, so may as well ask...

Forums in general are dead these days. Its all moved onto Facebook, which is ultra frustrating because you get 5 people each day asking the exact same question, and its hard to search for things. And DIY's are basically a thing of the past now too.
Im on various forums both in Australia...

Couple of other little mods fitted recently, while ive been patiently researching and ordering some more substancial mods.
- Turbosmart plumb back BOV. These new age BOV's have an electronic solenoid and operate in the same way as the factory BOV. Plugs into the factory wiring too, no error...Last edited by Lucas_R; 31-10-2025, 01:24 PM.

Far out has that Polo been written off by insurance for such a small amount of damage? What a waste!

Far out haha. With so many sets of VW car keys how do you not get them all mixed up.

Well.....its definitely faster now. It really gets up and boogies now for a 2 tonne SUV. Better throttle response, lots more torque, doesnt feel flat anymore above 4,000rpm - it just keeps pulling all the way to 6,500rpm. Launches way harder, it builds more rpm and therefore boost while brake-boosting,...Last edited by Lucas_R; 31-10-2025, 11:34 AM.

With these new Ford based engines, dont just walk.......but run from any engine design using a wet belt setup. Absolute garbage that should not exist.

Time for a bit of fun and some extra power. This car isn't exactly slow in stock form, but you can feel that it has a lot more to give because it just feels flat from about 4000rpm onwards. I did 3x 0-100kph runs on Saturday morning using the Carista 0-100kph recording function to get a baseline (5.3,...Last edited by Lucas_R; 27-10-2025, 01:31 PM.

Just double check the part numbers to what VW have quoted you, but I believe this is the part that you need. Its quite common for the rubber in these coupler to rip/tear and require replacement. https://motoriousperformance.com.au/...7-5-audi-s3-8v

I cant help you with the wiring and coding question, but we do have a couple of wiring and coding guru's on here who can no doubt offer some help. But yes unfortunately with OBDeleven you can't do a heck of a lot without the account.

I did briefly consider an S4 Avant as my step sister was selling her immaculate (she is next level OCD) super low km's black S4 Avant, as she has just upgraded to the brand new S5 Avant .......but I didnt want a black car, and I really need the ground clearance of the SQ5 for our steep driveway. So...

That was nearly a year ago so its quite possible the car is sold by now. I would expect a very nice condition Mk6 R with low km's would be $18-25k.
Looking on CarSales there are a handful of nice clean Mk6 R's with around 80,000-120,000km which given their age, is pretty low km's.

Cool sight to see a Mk1 crusing around in 2025. You have put in a lot of work already to get this car roadworthy so im glad you are able to enjoy the fruits of your labour and start to drive the car occasionally.

Hi and welcome. Nice to see another new member on here and someone who is not shy of a bit of DIY.
Funny you mention the Berrymans B12 chemical, as I just bought 2x cans of it myself to use in my nieces car (Mazda SP23) that I service and maintain for her as its starting to consume a bit...
