No doubt because it's miserable weather here in SA this week; my GTI is hiding out in the garage, all warm and dry! Seriously though, although my car has been rained on plenty, and I've re-washed it etc etc, I have a genuine compulsion to keep it clean and shiny while it's still new. I'm sure I'll get over it soon enough.

Mk6 - dozens no doubt. Mk5 - it's got to be hundreds, judging by how frequently I see them these days!

I'd like mine to be squirrelled away in a garage but I have to drive it to work..hence the reason why I can't go for a long drive until later in the week.

I also finish later in the evening so I can't have a decent run as dinner, family etc beckon.

But don't worry, I'll make the most of when I get a chance!

Today I left work to go see the finance guy my the local veedub dealership. Not even 2 minutes of driving and what do I see coming up on the opposite side of the road?? a beautiful blue .:R (5 door) It only happened for a few seconds but I caught a glimpse of the driver. All I could think was 'You lucky bastad!' lol
First one I've seen and it really is an awesome looking car indeed, but it made me think about something all the way to the dealership. Does it make the car of my dreams that I ordered 3 months ago, look mediocre? Everybody is pretty much raving on about the Golf R now that it's out on the roads, I mean I could easily tell VW to keep their GTI and give me an R instead. I can't though, there is something about the R that I can't quite put my finger on. Could only possibly be that I've fallen in love with the car I've ordered...my red GTI ... Even though I haven't seen it yet. I have an image in my head what the car will look like, but not the real thing. Kinda like one of those Russian mail order brides, but instead she is German and I will love her until the day we part.

Anyways back on topic, I gave the veedub man some more of my hard earned cash, a grey-metallic .:R with a 'Sold' sign was about 2 meters away from me. The man let me in on a little secret...
My car will be arriving a few weeks earlier than expected, late July / early August and now I'm so just so much more excited than ever! Got the VIN number aswell, so I gonna keep myself updated on her whereabouts lol

Just signed up for a 5 door Carbon Grey Steel GTI DSG with MDI and factory bluetooth. I didn't really want the MDI or factory bluetooth but they were the only options if I wanted the driveaway deal.

Have the VIN and they even told me the name of the ship. Supposed to arrive in late August, will have to go and confirm.

Now to patch things up with the wife as she was expecting me to get the 103 TDI DSG with sports pack and so I have blown my budget by about 7K and I haven't done the tinting and paint protection yet lol

Hey mate, congratulations on getting the right car!!
Anyways, I thought I should advise against the money on paint protection. Its a waste of money. I have had it (and it cost me $1100) and afterwards found out its just a bit of a scam.. they basically wash your car with stuff that barely stays on/works.

When I took my car to a panel beater to fix my side mirror, he confirmed my suspicions.

Check it out for your self before you lay down the moollah.

Picked up my GTI today and had a little drive back from Gosford to Sydney. Test drives do not do the car justice (for want of a better term). The DSG is so much better than I realized and I used all of the 'modes'. I found the manual mode to be my favourite with a great little blip on the down changes. Very quiet inside and so much more refined than my Mini. I love my Mini but the GTI is heaps better with a lot more bits and pieces to play with. I love the 'dealer fitted' RNS510 and it does have all the functionality. There are things I could 'knock' but overall the unit is good. I'll just have to work out a way to put in the speed cameras etc.

I am now at home RTFM so I don't get into trouble!

I'm heading to Nambucca Heads tomorrow for a little drive so look out for TUX being driven by an old bloke with a big grin on his face...

BTW, I plugged in my USB into the MDI and the first song that came on was 'I believe I can fly'. Yep, I can fly in my G T I !
