Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

    Can't recall mate. But I think it may have been able to calculate it. I know the Garmin bling bling in my wife's Polo can do it.

              Do I need to activate downgrade in the secret menu to load this firmware given that I am already on 4020?

              You mentioned that you have a B revision unit I think so the 402x image that you are using needs some of those tables swapped around in order for you to use it. We have not made this widely available due to possible issues however FJSteve is running it on his A unit without issue as far as I am aware.

              You have two options here: downgrade to the 381x image from the beginning of this thread which has the tables swapped for compatibility with your unit, or ask FJSteve to make the 402x image with table swaps available for others to try.
              kamold, I already downgraded to the 381x image from the beginning of this thread which also gave me the swl error screen that I posted. I will try this new 4020 and see how I go.

                Yep need to do a downgrade.
                If this doesn't fix your issue then there may be an issue with the unit.

                  Just a note: I upgraded a '11 and '12 build Rocco with the files here, burnt to CD (Benq) at the slowest possible speed, without problems.

                  The RNS in both detected the CD without the need to press the buttons to restart the unit. Both took 57mins for the firmware, plus the Nav disc.

                    I have read through the whole thread and I have a question from a real novice on this sort of thing -

                    In the first post it says for upgrading to -

                    Firmware 40xx -Links (thanks to JohnC) Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5

                    1. Do I have to download all 5 parts and combine it into 1 cd? Or,

                    2. Can I just use the link provided

                      You need to work out which version unit you have first.

                      A, B, C, D or higher?

                      The five part link (and yes download them all and combine with say winrar program) can be used for anything other than A unit.

                      Second link is just for an A unit.

                          All I can say is - You guys are brilliant. After I worked out how to extract and combine the 5 parts, I burnt the CD using IMGBurn and then made the choice to "have a go". It worked perfectly. I followed the instructions fully and I now have 33Gb of free space instead of 19 odd Gb. I have now upgraded to FW4020 from FW3920, have V5 maps and a ton of POIs. Bloody brilliant. Thanks heaps Kamold, JohnC, Aussietig and I'm sure I've missed someone. Well done.
