Firmware updates for RNS510 units in Australia/NZ

Which firmware are you loading to what unit running what firmware?
Also what software did you use to make the cd/dvd and what settings?
It more than likely just a media error.

Error Code 010303 usually means this:

A SWL error occured and now the maximum SWL Error Count has been reached. SWL is now blocked until a power cycle is initiated using the following
<SETUP> + <MIC> + <EJECT>"

I have a C unit in my MY11 R, and I've upgraded to 3870 (beta) so far (upgrading to 4020 when I get around to it).

In the MY11.5 vehicles onwards, a mute button for the optical parking system (OPS) was introduced - this is a soft button on the RCD/RNS touch screen.

Does anyone know if the 39XX/40XX firmware and/or VCDS coding can add this feature for an MY11 or earlier system? Love my OPS/RVC but trying to back up when I have a sleeping child in the back is problematic as I don't want the beeping to wake them!

Not sure what firmware revisions it is available in but I would assume all of them? - there is a mute button on the RNS510 screen when the OPS is enabled by selecting reverse or using the physical OPS button (where installed). Its in the bottom right corner I think from memory. Has a picture of a speaker or some such...

Thanks for your response - it is definitely not there on the 3870 I am running, but that is a beta version that was only released around the time the MY11.5 changes were announced (end of 2010) so it may not have incorporated the mute function.

I will try and find time over the weekend to upgrade and will post the results - I have been looking into this for a while, but searching for terms like RNS 510 OPS parking mute gets a lot of results that are not relevant to what I am after.

Running 4020 fw I also have the physical P button however that turns the whole ops system on and off not just mute.

Yup - missing that button, have the P button but as you say it turns off OPS and RVC. Do you have C or D rev hardware? If you have C rev then I am optimistic that the upgrade will deliver for me.

Interesting. Let us know if fw upgrade does the trick otherwise ill look through vcds to see if there might be an option somewhere. Doesn't make sense to be a hardware limitation.

So it is not (just) firmware, now running 4020 with no mute option. Most likely VCDS coding will enable it, but I guess there is still the possibility it is hardware related somehow (VW DRM - feature only present if correct hardware detected?).

Seems really pointless to have that disabled via coding...I'll have to look in my coding to see if I can find any mention of it. Will let you know if I find something.

Hi guys,

Firstly thanks for the awesome work that has been put together here. I took a deep breath yesterday and went ahead and updated my A unit RNS 510, which is installed in an '06 Jetta with the older CAN Bus. I used the 3810 firmware from the first page.

Everything went well, firmware loaded, new maps installed, hdd partitioned correctly and all working perfectly.

This morning though when I started the car I noticed that the splash screen didn't come up and the unit loaded straight into it's last state (GPS map). Took about 2 seconds to start up, like I would expect if I turned the car back on after a short stop for petrol etc.

So my question - is this a sure sign that I am heading down the path of a power drain problem of the old CAN bus? My understanding from a previous post was that this firmware compile included the old CAN gateway fix or do I need to run this fix as a stand alone install?

It's possible that it is not powering down properly. The 3810 image has the table swaps that should in theory prevent the battery drain issue but nothing in this life is a sure thing...
I'dmonitor for a day or two to confirm and if it doesn't power down fully you may need to go back to 2760. Try doing a reboot of the rns as well just in case it's doing something weird.

Hi kamold, thanks for your reply.

I ended up running the old CAN gateway fix disc by itself last night and took the car for a quick drive after it finished updating. This morning when I started the car the boot sequence started and the flash screen showed up. Will continue to monitor as you suggested but hopefully all is good to go.
