Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Sounds like you've already sussed out the unzipping so the next step is burning the ISO file (which in itself is somewhat like a ZIP file as it contains a lot of other smaller files inside it).

The process all depends on what software you have but the easiest way to work it out is probably to check a YouTube HowTo video:

(This is from memory and I'm afraid, I'm an old codger too, so I'm a bit rusty.) When all 5 parts have unzipped you can burn the ISO file/s. I hope this helps.
      Thanks GTD,

As I thought and I assume you don't actually see the other parts being unzipped you then end up with an ISO file about 600 megs in size I will try burning and installing that and see what happens.

        • Thanks GTD,

All appeared to load ok and the system did not report any errors BUT since then
          1. I have found it to be exceptionally slow to load up
          2. Have reloaded maps but they don't want to appear although system indicates their presence
          3. Unable to stream music via Bluetooth from iPhone
          4. RNS constantly reboots without notice
          5. Locks up on certain screens
          6. No audio on DVD's (** Update - now no audio on anything**)
          7. Have attempted to update maps to V5 with no luck

These are the issue I have found thus far and also notice that the FW upgrade has changed my system from a C version to a D version.

          All help appreciated

          regards

          Murray

          • Just revert back to FW 3970, if you're having that many problems on your C unit.

There's absolutely no material gains under FW 4020.

            • Thanks

Thanks Aussie, I think I have the issue semi sorted in that my hardware version is actually a B unit (according to VCDS) and not a C as was showing on the hidden menu (setup button) and I have/had loaded 4020 when I should have loaded 3810. I have just loaded 3810 onto my RNS and all appearsto be working except audio on everything so I'm guessing this may be a coding issue and I will check this tomorrow at work when I can get my lappie into the car.

I'm about to try V5 maps to see if I can correct that small issue as well.

              cheers and thanks again

              Murray

              **** UPDATE ****
Audio issue was a coding issue and I have now corrected that via VCDS. Maps V5 works a treat (still lags behind where car actually is though). POI works a treat. Haven't tried VIM as yet and Blueetooth streaming audio is still not happening for me but I will persist. If anyone has any suggestions (keep them topic centered please) I would be appy to give them a try.

              cheers

              **** Further Update ****

Bluetooth audio streaming now fixed (coding issue). VIM works a treat but don't recommend it as can be very distracting. Changed intro screen and had initial problem with the error that seems to come about if you don't burn on a quality disc at the slowest speed possible. I ended up using a TDK CD-R burnt using XPCDBurning at 1x (track at once) with outstanding results. Also used Netdata to build my own intro screen but have not loaded it at present.

              cheers

                • Does the 40xx firmware in the 1st post include the POI's in this thread?

                  • POI's can only be included with Maps discs, not firmware. Then there's a secondary set of separate Personal POIs.

                    Here's the v4020 firmware:

                    • I'm planning on doing the upgrade to FW3810 tonight.

                      Currently have a 1T0 035 680 B with FW1120.

Doe I need to intermediate upgrades? or do I just go for it?

Thanks mate, you are a legend.

Final question, since I am currently on 1120, and the RNS is installed in a 2011 Multivan, how can I get it to 3818 (instead of 3810)?

Do I have to edit a file somewhere or is it not possible?

                          • No, nothing like that. The last digit of the firmware is the actual vehicle its installed in. Determined automagically by the upgrade process.
Thats why you'll sometimes see references like 381x or 402x.

                            • Happy customer here, thanks to kamold!

Last night, B model went from FW1120 to FW3810 in an hour with no problems, and from V3 maps to V5 maps in another 40mins!

Burnt all media at 4x on CD and had no read issues at all. Wasted a CD burning a 2720fix CD just in case which was not needed
