Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

You said you had a A unit, which, when upgraded via FW will read as a version D.

Whatever the unit believes it is, it is STILL an A unit. I have an A unit and cannot go higher than 3810. Have tried 3970, 4020 using a gazillion different burning methods. Ba-bow. No dice.

Trust me...3810/V5 maps/Personal Poi's and personal Splash Screen is more bling than you need. 4020 is not giving you any more bang for buck.

yes my Map is still loading ( Westen Europe Map ) , GPs is fine 10/12 Sat,
when i tried to eject the DVD its warned me the map is on the process and i will break the process,
so i will have to wait untill all is finished,
How big is the Europe west map DVD?
It is possible that there is not enough space on the map partition and it is getting stuck. Also how big is your hdd?

These custom firmware images were created specifically for Australia and New Zealand users whose map data is only 600mb or so.

If we find that the partition for the map data is too small with 90/5/5 ratio I can make a new custom script to change to 80/15/5 or similar in order to allow enough room for your map data.

awesome, ok, well with that in mind, with the gradual upgrade, is upgrading like twice fine, once to 2664, then to 3810?
Also, do I need to worry about this for 2664 update:
Extract files PQTABLE and SKTABLE from image (use magiciso or ultraiso). Files can be found from path: \VUCI\B101\RNSMIDEC\PROG
Switch the filenames by just renaming SKTABLE to PQTABLE and vice versa
Overwrite the renamed files back to image and save the image. Burn this image to DVD or CD.
Load or reload the Firmware to your RNS-510 using the steps below.
          Voilá… buttons are back!

I am a Skoda owner, but im not 100% whether it is referencing for BT module buttons, or every skoda ownder should do it regardless.

And Do I need to know about this for any reason on the 3810 update:
          Revision A, B and C revision units

These units will become SW revision D after the upgrade however when coding the unit using VCDS you will receive the error
“Coding Rejected, Error 31: Request Out of Range”
Before saving the new coding manually add a 10th byte (00) at the end before pressing “Do It” as per the example below

9 byte coding (A/B/C SW revisions):
          020104000400001100

10 byte coding (D SW revision):
          02010400040000110000

I would say with a 4G ISO, and only 5% full HDD space reserved for maps in this Aussie modded version of the f/w, that it will not be any good for you (assume you have a 40G HDD, that will only be 2G partition for maps, not enough for Europe more than likely). If your HDD is 30G, that is only 1.5G partition size for maps. I guess Volkswagen came up with the partitioning scheme with Europe in mind, but for Australia, we don't need anywhere near the kind of space reserved for maps (or POIs), hence the 90/5/5 split for the Aussie (modified) firmwares.

is it possible that someone can help to recreate the new Firmware for Europe to have space on the HDD for the map and POI?

                      Please stand by.....

As the original post mentions, these custom firmware images were designed for Australia and New Zealand users.
We have a pretty small road network compared with Western Europe, so the map disk is under 1GB of data. Therefor we are able to use more HDD space for music.

JohnC will provide us with some modified files and I will update the guide in the first post.
We will use 75% of space for music, 20% for map data and 5% for POI database.

It will be a full firmware load.

It is possible to just do a HDD repartition, but I want to try and make this is easy as possible for as many people as possible, without too many variations. This was initially intended only for Australia/NZ however as the internet is what it is, seems popularity has spread this further.

Appears a club in Spain has come across this as well.
