Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Firmware updates for RNS510 units in Australia/NZ

Hi Guys
Appreciate your help with this as I've been searching and keep receiving mixed answers. I have a 2009 CC with an RNS 510 but I am unable to work out which version it is and what the latest possible firmware may be for it.
The not so secret menu tells me I have
1T0035680D HW-03 SW-3810
However the label on the unit says
1T0035680B HW: 03 SW: 0900
Would be great to work out if I can update or if my unit is too ancient. Cheers2009 Passat CC TDI - With everything minus reverse camera

Hi everyone. I'm not sure if secret menu is enabled but when I hold down on SETUP, it goes into a 'Radio Service mode' which I can test both the FM and AM antennas and also a 'Version Informatoin' menu. When I click on that menu, it just shows this which according to the thread is insufficient to tell me what revision it is correct?
Would love some help in deciding whether I can flash my RNS straight to 5238.
I definitely know I don't have an internal HDD in the unit if that helps...2011 VW MK6 Golf GTI

You can load 5238 straight up. It is a D version with 3970 firmware What car model is it in.
You dont click on it you keep holding the button in for about 10 secs after that menu appears
If its a RNS510 it will have an HDD and when you are in media mode it should have a line across the top with SD HDD AUX as options
Scroll that menu down to see what version map you have2021 Kamiq LE 110 , Moon White, BV cameras F & B

Thanks. It belongs in a 2011 MK6 Golf GTI.
I just thought there wasn't a HDD as when I click on media, the HDD part is blanked out (not that I use it usually anyways).
I took a photo under version info, it says 'Map Version HDD 7492'.
Thanks. I will attempt 5238 later this afternoon, on my way to jump on the boat today
Lastly, I noticed there is FW 6276 available too. Would I be applicable for that? Or should I just settle for 5238?

It has a hdd.
Just copy some music to it from an SD card to see it.
5238 is the latest available for your unit.
6000 series is only for new units with ssd as its newer hardware.

Thanks for your kind assistance!
Also, I just want to confirm that I will need to buy a maps disc in order to complete the firmware update and load the maps back onto it correct?

Yes you can upgrade any unit to 5238.
V9 maps are available from jku exclusively at this point.

5238 appears to be the most widely stable.
I would advise using it.
