Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I'll search for a pic, searching flaps is not the best term to go with LOL.

Instead of the CDA you can get yourself a smaller K&N to also suit and custom a box at the same time.. its a neat setup as well. But definitely like what you have done but kangfu's q is what i was gonna ask next..

    • I saw it when he sold it, it had some 17inch wheels, kind of like a speedline with multiple spokes

I bought a K&N Apollo but didnt like the look of it, it looked kind of cheap, CDA is a quality bit of work

There are a few images of his car here http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/f127...tml#post372098

                  • Replaced the BOV

Won some money at a mates poker thing last night, and thought hey why not replace the BOV.

Ended up buying a Turbosmart Kompact Dual-Port BOV and the dude at the supposedly "high performance workshop" fitted it for me free of charge - what I nice bloke I thought... Initially I wasn't too impressed with it as it was not that noticeable. As I drove further I started to notice that the car just did not feel right and the throttle response was a bit all over the place. In the end got home, pulled out the instructions, took the engine cover off and low and behold the knob has put the thing in the wrong way round!!!

Well, after an hour or so trying to get it off, I put it in the right way and booyah, nice flutter on part throttle with a big woosh on full-throttle liftoff... It came with a blanking plate if I get bored of the woosh-ing. Got it on the hardest setting too so no 'check engine' lights have appeared on the dash... yet!!

Best Part - more noise and being anodised black the thing is completely stealth - the trumpet is under the engine cover (wasn't me making that noise officer!!)

Worst Part - Getting the f$%&ing factory hose clamps off with a small set of pliers... I replaced them with the screw-type hose clamps the BOV came with

Lessons Learnt - If you want something done right do it yourself, oh and I think the factory vacuum hose could do with being ~1" longer, might fix that next weekend

                      • $260 fitted (well.. not properly lol )

Plus you are supporting Australian Made performance gear which made me feel a bit warm and fuzzy!!

Just have to wait to get the KW coilovers delivered now and and my modifying will be over for a bit.. Until I decide to get an intercooler to stop the car from pinging it's head off on these hot QLD summer days :S

                        • Yeah, I have been looking on eBay, and a place in Melbourne does them for $230, and looking on Amazon I can get it for $180.
It's funny, my Forge 007 DV is louder than the Forge Dual Port DV that I had on it...
Is this the part number for the one you fitted??

                          • Yep thats the right part number... But the picture is of the old model, the one I've got is the newer slightly less bulky design as below. Make sure you install it with the top of the valve (bit with vacuum nipple) facing towards the LHS guard, the trumpet should be obscured by the engine cover:

and confirmed that you will need a longer length of vacuum hose (about 1" longer) as mine has fallen off twice this afternoon.. I'll grab some from Autobarn tomorrow

                            • Thanks for that. Yeah, I have a longer length of vacuum hose on the DV now.

Where can u get this valve for 230 in Melbourne? As long as there are no engine lights or error codes come up when car is hooked ip through VAG-COM. Im interested. I still got my FORGE Dual Port DV but my car never liked it and always went into limp mode.
