A few cars from the hillclimb field - all from very different classes obviously! Check out that open wheeler. It has an ex F1 Judd V8 (that was in one of Adrian Newey's early cars and did a French GP) in a Dallara F3 chassis. Looks like a bit of lift going over a crest or is that HP keeping the fronts in the air afterwards.....sick! Oh and a cool little hatch too

 I think its WSCC.com/net/org - one of those. There's a creek reserve /picnic ground at the end of the road before the big uphill. Its a public road so if you go and find it you can drive up there and you'll see the tyre walls, Armco, embankments and marshalls towers. The club brings in food tents and demountables, gets the road closed etc for the events. I think someone lives at the top so when you get up there the best thing is to loop around to the left on the dirt road which brings you back around to "the kink" on tarmac again. When events are on its cool that you can do your run and then park up there and watch the rest of your class come up after you through that crazy corner.
 I'd call the club contact. Normally you need a L2S speed CAMS license with full cotton clothing, extinguisher, helmet, numbers/decals, tow hooks but being a come and try you may not need all that. L2S licensed people can go in the car with you so you could ask about that too - maybe they could do a run with you to point out the lines.

 Popped a new battery in. Unfortunately not a super duper lightweight one that'll have to wait when I've got a bit more time to muck around with it. As it's my daily I just did a like for like.

 Gave her a clean and replaced the passenger side mirror (which fell of ages ago as they do)
 I didn't bother plugging the heater wires back in given this is the cause of them letting go. Anyone else run like this? I just taped them up so they don't cause any issues.08 9n3 Polo GTI

 Then I was going to take the intake manifold off for a decarb last weekend
 Soon as I touched the bolt on the right of the manifold I know something's wrong
 The washer was hanging on the bolt!! That bolt was loose!!!
 
 
 
 Then I took the manifold off and there are trace of oil on the head around the port that has that loose bolt
 You can see the exhaust manifold nut was cover with oil too, but they aren't that wet

 Well, not that thick layer of carbon 
 
 
 
 Looning at the bolts and only that one is covered in oil
 That makes me wonder
 
 
 
 More evidence of an old oil leak on that side of the manifold
 I'll talk about this later
 
 
 
 
 
 Anyway this is how the manifold looked like

 And this is the result during the week
 A good bath in the heavy duty kerosene wash and a good blast in the sandblaster
 Still have some carbon in it but there is nothing else I can do
 Also resurfaced the mating surface with some 600 grade sandpaper

 Thinking about it after I was done I've got everything linked together
 Some of you may know about my fun story with the rocker cover
 Where the oil was pouring is actually just above that bolt
 Over oil penetrated the thread and the diesel vibration made that bolt vary easy to work itself loose
 That made the manifold leaking at that side and that's where the air leak came from
 
 
 
 
 And now I'm stuck waiting for the gasket 
 Hopefully I'll have it delivered this week so I can put everything back to confirm my diagnosis

 With professional guidance, I tapped two sheets of sandpapers to a big flat surface and sand the manifold on itOriginally posted by Eddy View PostHoyhoy.
 
 I'd get the manifold surface professionally linished while its off, much better, just to make sure.

 Got my gearbox back from having the wavetrac LSD installed last night. Had new seals and bearings installed while it was open, along with ARP crown wheel bolts and whatnot, synchro's and gears were all good so they've stayed. Will get the box back in tonight/tomorrow and off for a drive ASAP. Can't wait.Track Car: 06 Polo GTI Red Devil mkII

 Installed a new radiator. Can't say I've ever encountered a radiator job before that required the entire (and I mean entire) front of the car to be removed. Incredible! Would fly (relatively speaking) through that kind of removal if I do it again but first time round it was a nightmare.
