Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

If you do sell the car to your brother, put the rear toe back to stock and or reduce the rear roll stiffness. That'd be lethal in the wet in an emergency braking situation and maybe even in a slightly misjudged roundabout entry. The manufacturers build in understeer for good reason.

          • Looking to buy a TIP as I move towards my stage 2 tune.

Has anyone got an 'oversized' TIP? This company has them to fit standard k03/maf and k04/upgraded 3" maf.

Totally understand why manufacturer build in understeer, was saved by that when I first got this car.

I've decided not to shipping the car to the east for my brother for now. As there're a few bits that might get him into trouble when registering, such as coilovers and egr delete race pipe. Change of ownership here doesn't need the car to be checked so those aren't an issue, at least that's the case when I sold a car two years back.

The car is for sale in the classified section if anyone is interested. Will be up on carsales in no time.

              • A bit of action this week:

Had my front bumper resprayed to fix up a small dent and 10 years of stone chips. Also had my TT wheel resprayed in gloss black and replaced the honeycomb grills (one had fallen off a few months ago and lost). The car looks great again its made a massive difference.

Installed my new GFB diverter valve this afternoon. Haven't gone for a drive yet so can't comment on performance. I'm living away from home at the moment so I'm without most of my tools. Did the job with a pair of supercheap auto needle nose pliers and a hex screwdriver set. Made it an absolute PITA to get the old hose clamps off.

Also, had to replace the small W5W headlight globes. Another PITA job with little access.

Booked in for a 3 inch DP and cat on monday.

Ordered online a TIP, throttle body hose, SAI blanking plate and resistors for the delete.

In few couple of months I'll look to get a FMIC so I can get that stage 2 tune I'm aiming for.

After 10 years of ownership I'm breathing some life and excitement into my old girl.

Mine did that a while ago. Landed on concrete but only took a 5cm piece size off the corner. I stuck it back on with silastic. Where did you get your replacement?

                      • Didn't realise I left the mirror heater switch on until my second one fell off. It's the knob that controls mirror position, the three knob positions are left, heater and right. So if you leave it in the second position the mirrors are heated all the time.

Got my new set off eBay uk, got both sides split angle and blue tinted just to add a bit of safety on the road. They were cheaper than orientalparts.com if I remember correctly.

I just got one off a local eBay seller for the glass only (mine fell flat and smashed into a dozen pieces when I opened the door) - $24.95 posted.
A dealer quoted me $126 exGST for the authentic piece of mirror glass.

It came with 2 strips of double sided tape but I also used a heap of non-acetate silicone to make sure it stays put (I was told that normal silicone will damage the mirror from the back).

It's nothing fancy but after a week driving around without the mirror, it seems fantastic having anything there.

                          • I was lucky. Mine flew off as i was going around a corner. I had the window open and it flew in and landed on the back seat. Used some sikaflex and been holding strong for 2+ years now.

                            • My drivers side one fell off and I managed to catch it whilst driving.
Used araldite to stick that sucker back on and hasn't moved in years. Mirror is still A1
The passenger side went but wasn't so lucky with that one, bought a second hand one
When I did the passenger side I left the heater wire unplugged, zfg for heater and the mirror falling off again if I accidentally leave it in that mode.

I'm imagining lightning fast reflexes as you see it start to fall, then your arm shoots out the window and plucks it from mid-air, cool as a cucumber and you're like "oh yeah, I just did that..."
