Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Just got it back from the major 100k service. which included timing belt spark plugs etc.
Also had the radiator replaced which was stuffed and probably only running at about 30%. This is what we think was causing my engine light to come on. Fault code was coolant temp sensor.

Tell you what after this service and new radiator the car is running like a million bucks. Shifting so much nicer

        • Yesterday I took the Squib to see a man about suspension. More details about the outcome in the near future. Could be interesting for those looking at upgrades, especially with the cost of shipping from overseas and the potential for getting hit with duty etc.

          Gavin

PS need to sell tunes to pay for it, anyone interested I have a demo ECU with Phase 1 loaded, which can be run in any 9N3 GTI.

              • Went and looked at a second Gti polo for my misses to drive. Price seemed fairly cheap, had timing belt done, water pump done, pictures looked good, nice matching personalized plates.

                Upon inspection....

The negitives: Paint was severely faded, big cuts and scratches to paint work with rust coming through, rust all along bonnet with massive paint chips, clutch was slipping, multiple fault codes with lights on dash, massive cracks in dash, brakes had a very very odd crunching feeling when pressed moderately to heavily, bad gutter rash on all rims, no spare tire, bonnet was jammed closed and once I did get it open the engine bay was covered in dirt and dust, had interior rips everywhere and radio knobs looked like they had been put in a blender!

                The positives: The personalized plates....

Needless to say the car was horrendously looked after, was very sad to see but was a very quick inspection with not a lot to say before leaving.

                Rant over

                • Got my car back today with the superpro lca bushes and vibratechnics mounts fitted. Feels.awesome.

Looks like we've found the slow water leak, water pump not fitted properly by the last workshop who did the timing belt. I suspected as much.

Oh well guess I'll need a racing kevlar timing belt and lightweight ecs pulleys because you know may well do it while it's all apart.

Community service announcement, may be best to steer clear of Quattro in vic park. I gave them the opportunity to fix their mistake (including wearing the cost to look into it) and they basically palmed it off and said they couldn't find it. I was able to spot the coolant trails on the sump so I suspect they didn't want to have to wear their mistake.

                        • Well after a week and a half of waiting turns out I'm not getting pulleys.

PSI Tuning dropped the ball; order placed, after a few days I follow up on the postage costs we're waiting on, told not in stock but will let you know as soon as the ecs shipment comes in, another week later told sorry not in stock will be 2 weeks to order plus postage time. Week and a half lost waiting when it could have been ordered. Pretty pissed TBH.

Order cancelled they'll have to wait til later as I need to get this water leak fixed and coolant flushed.

Never had a problem with PSI Tuning before but it only takes one bad experience...

Sorry to hear that Lee, I called in when I was back in the UK. Hard to get more than 2 sentences in with Ade, between incoming calls. What were those pulleys you were after? Can you email me the link, I might have a solution for you

You must've driven pretty much past my house - I'm 5 mins from J18 off the M6

Can vouch well for PSI too - they've been great sending stuff out here to me. I need to get a 1.8T shallow sump from them next if anyone's doing a group buy?
