Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I recall Clay suggesting February for the next laps. It wasn't that long ago when there was only 1 or 2 polo's doing it. Now to convert a few to timeattack

Hope the springs work out for you. I did springs only initially, really didn't like it at anything over 80kph or on the smoothest of roads. Others have found it acceptable.

I'll soon find out! Gav did warn me they are very stiff but it comes down to personal preference I guess. I haven't had lowered or stiffer springs before so this will be my first.

Like you say, depends on who's behind the wheel

You'll probably find the stock shocks a bit bouncy with the H&R springs, but still an improvement over stock. The car will look nice on those 17s too

And Sean I'm keen to join time attack in 2016...need about 12 months to get the car up to scratch (coilovers, semi slicks, etc.).

          • Thanks for sharing Eddy. Doesn't look like there are any 2nd gear corners there, thats a good thing. Though some long third gear, which isn't ideal without LSD.

Dan, perhaps check out sprints prior to timeattack, they are more street car oriented events. Same format, just typically less track oriented cars, more daily's. You don't need semi's for timeattack, though it helps given the pace out there. I'd be amongst the faster cars at sprints but back end of the mid pack, or lower for timeattack. Both try to out you in sessions with similarly paced cars.

Im going to start parting out the silver car of the UR Bracing, I'll let you know when I've done it.

Thanks Dan here's some before and after shots. Got the last one done this morning, but jesus what a pain it was tendo. Got there in the end though. The 17's do fill the arches just that little bit more which is a bonus Definitely is a bouncier, notice the imperfections in the road more now, as you said not perfect but still better then stock and cosmetically I like it..

                  • Consider the short shifter and gearbox bushes, the shift is so much nicer with those mods.

I think that's a good call Sean - and also keen to grab some parts from you too

And +1 on parts you decide to part with Sean. Looking to gt a FMIC of whoever is selling one in the near future along with a few small bits and pieces

                          • Few more small things done, put the Lower engine mount in and changed the gearbox oil hoping to get rid of the intermittent crunch 1st to 2nd.

                            • Changed my rear brakes, found out the hard way that its actually a spinning piston, was sitting there for a good hour trying to press the piston back into the caliper.. feel so stupid..
