Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • I've done 13308km and used 2.7 lts. Averaging about 200ml per 1000km. I don't know if this is good or bad compared to everyone else or if I should even get it looked at.

    • That's good! No point getting it looked as anything less than 500ml per 1000km is within VW specifications.

A guy in italy replaced the pistons on a vrs with custom built ones and stopped oil usage.

Its about the only occasions ive read about where its stopped between service intervals.

        • Dropped the car to dealer today for oil consumption fix. They replaced piston oil jets.have anyone done this before? And is anyone know what it really mean? The guy at dealer not very helpful. Just said oil usage should be better than before.keep an eye for 3000km from now.

          • If you read through some recent posts, it is explained there. Has it made a difference?

            • See my post below that i posted in this thread (albeit a few pages back) about the revised oil jets.

The jets spray oil onto the underside of the pistons to help keep them cool. I assume the revised jets are bigger to spray higher quantities of oil.

I haven't seen any mention of these oil squirters on here - anyone had this done yet? These engines squirt oil onto the bottom (or underneath) the pistons to cool them - i assume these are what have been revised.

              • I have been told the revised oil squirters are actually designed to spray a "smaller" quantities of oil.
Apparently, the original ones were spraying too much onto the piston leading to the excess being burn up, hence high oil consumption and the ass of my car being completely covered by black spot soot.

I got mine done about 2 weeks ago, I've done about 400-500km and the dipstick is still completely oily...yeah!!! So def some progress there compare to oil warning light flashing at 800-900km. Will return to the dealership at a 1000km for some more measurement... I will update you guys on the exact figures.

                • CID84G, did dealer organise an oil consumption test after the jet replaced? My dealer just said to me keep an eye on it for 3000km

@POW Yeah they ask me to go back after 1000km, but it wasn't sealed that's why I was able to have a little peek.
Like you I only do about 150km a week, so it will be a few more weeks till I find out the result.
The service advisor at Northshore VW told me I was the 2nd PoG to have the new part fitted.
