Some friends have told me coilovers are much firmer than lowering springs. Some others told me the other way around especially H&R springs being overly uncomfortable in the Q5's and Q7's. I'm unsure why such opposite reviews. It's confusing me. But I'm swaying towards coilovers due to height adjustability that you mentioned. Do they make the vehicle un-road worthy?

Coilovers are legal in all states afaik. However, some states like ACT (booo!) they need to be engineer certified, not sure about Vic?

I have read that the KW V1s are quite comfortable, have a chat with Chris (preen59) he can fill you in on KWs and I think he sells them also.

    • I used to run a Carlsson (rebadged KW V1) coilover on my old C-class, spun all the way down with 35 (f) and 30(r) profile tyres. I ran an Eibach spring before switching to coilover.

I would choose coilover anyday over spring. The ride is slightly firmer than spring alone, but the body control is much better, ie; less bumpy and a much more secure and tighter ride. The trade off in firmness is worth it.

I'm guessing the difference between the ride is a matching spring rate with the shocks. I know it's a totally different car, but similar logic should apply.

Thanks Pullstarter. I'm actually not sure about te legality about using coilovers in VIC. Does anyone know? I have a number of frds who use them in their cars.

Chris..? Thanks. I will try to look out for him. He's in Melbourne?

            • Does anyone know what is the brand and type of tyres that comes with the 19 inch havanah wheels? Apparently Bridgestone doesn't make tyres to fit 19 x 8.5

We don't get the 19" savanah wheels in Aus.
Even though they are listed as a delaer accessory apparently no one is able to get them in.

I have Kumho KU31's on my 19" wheels.
Might be best to use Carbonblack - car parts, tyres and car services to find what tyres are available in your sizing requirements.

May I ask where you got RE50s for that price? That's a damn good deal.

                            • edi, 5% difference in the profile shouldn't be a problem. I Think the 245/45/19 would have your speedo reading fairly true. The 245/40/19 (that i have) have the speedo reading as it would with stock wheels & tyres, ie reading about 5% more than what you are actually doing. Others here have 245/45/19 without issues inside the wheel well as well.

Simon, got the rubber from BJTMart January 2011, just over a year ago, when they were on special for the month. Think they were 15% off at the time. (They were $324 ea inc. fit, balance & nitrogen fill)
