Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

That's what I thought until I parked my white Mk7 next to a white Mk6 the other day and then the differences became very obvious. Longer, wider, lower with sharper edges, bigger guards with more slope towards the roof, the front bumper blending more with the painted sections and the raised bonnet line with the sharp creases running back to the windscreen all give the Mk6 a more modern, crisper, aggressive appearance. It makes the Mk6 suddenly look old and yesterday's car. Look closely and everything has changed. And that's coming from someone who has just sold their white Mk6. And it is a Golf, with a history going back to 1974 (I owned a white one for 5 years from 1977 then too) and VW will never do a Hyundai i30 or Focus or Lancer and completely change the theme with every new model. I mean, look at the back of the new Focus. Would you have picked what it was without the badges? Thankfully VW won't do that to Golf owners.

Magazine/newspaper reviewers should do that more often - park the old next to the new. Then they'll stop saying nothing's changed in the design and point out the differences to readers.

When the XR5 forum has better info than VW Watercooled...

Link to a journo or other who has driven one of the demos running around NSW.

Focus ST vs Mk7 Golf GTI

          No bi-xenons.

          • This is getting ridiculous, but why the hell not...I think those photos were taken at the VAG HQ in Chullora (24 Muir Road Chullora, Sydney, NSW). Someone should go for a drive.

In the photo 20130816_155623a.jpg, looks like the normal sat nav instead of the Discover Pro. No 3dr, no std xenons, no std discover pro. This is very much a let down all round.

It's the basic unit, notice the angles around the screen in the shot.

                    Example:

The discover pro doesn't have them and it reaches right down to the lip whereas the basic one doesn't.

Theres a few other things we can get form that shot though, it has the Mode button next the the DSG, which I think means it has the adaptive suspension and it doesn't have the Engine start/stop button, so no std KESSY.

                      You are right reader0r,

There are three buttons on the left of the gear stick,

One is the engine stop start, are the other two the adaptive suspension?

Top to bottom. GTI Mode selector, Auto engine stop/start, Traction control.

By Engine Start/stop, I'm talking about push button start where you turn on the car by press the button instead of turning the key. It's the grey button to the right of the DSG stick in the Discovery Pro picture I linked (which is from the UK spec GTI). Its missing from that AU spec interior shot.

                          • So the golf ball shifter is only on the manual version?
