Less than $54,000 drive away with corporate discount. I didn't even bother asking for any more off.
It's being deliverd to Victoria because I'm moving there in February 2012. The dealer says it WILL be there by then. I don't believe him...
Hi, Paul_R, congratulation for your new R. I put in an order at end of May and dealer promise me it will come in around Nov or Dec this year. and I put MDI as option in my order, just wonder can I get the $270 back if my car is MY12 which mean MDI&Bluetooth will free as standard?

    • You can ask the question to the dealer nicely. Point out that a Nov/Dec delivery means it's a MY12 car where MDI is already included as standard and therefore isn't an option. However, if you signed a contract for an agreed price, they're under no obligation to change the price. But they may if they're feeling nice.

There was some heated discussion on this topic in another thread somewhere - that particular person ended up cancelling his order over it! So...

      • Thanks for your answer, buddy. I will try to ask via email to dealer see any luck there. If not, it not a big deal due to just 270 versus get my car in time~

And thats completely fair enough. If the thing is now standard that you are paying extra for, why should you get charged extra?

After all your already getting an awesome 6 month wait. I dont see the difficulty in changing the price, since VW didnt have a problem changing the product.

If you ordered an XBOX360, with the included controller PLUS an extra controller, For $400 ($300 for the console plus $100 for the extra controller). Then on release day, Microsoft has decided that they now come with 2 controllers instead of just 1.

You dont need the extra controller anymore, that'll be $300 thanks!!

If you think differently you are crazy..

          • I agree in the example you've provided, but there is also a slight difference when we're talking about a legally binding contract which both parties have agreed on and signed. This was further complicated by the fact that it wasn't RRP anymore, it was nicely negotiated and discounted, yet there seemed to be the expectation that full RRP off the options was deserved. But that's all I'll say on it, because as I said, it was heated last time and the dude ending up cancelling his order over it...

            • Hi guys
              Sorry to change the subject
I'm about to put a deposit on a Golf R, it has only been registered as a demo a week ago
The asking price was $78,000 and i managed to bring it down to $75,000
Does it seem realistic for the specs below

The Golf R is ready for delivery and they will also give us a discount on the extra 3 years manufacturer's warranty.

              Candy White
              DSG
              Sunroof
              19' black wheels
              ACC
              RNS510 Satnav Dynaudio Prem
              Fibre leather racing seats
              MDI
              Bluetooth
              Park distance control RVC
Please let me know what you think

              • Assuming that it's not an MY12 car and therefore the Bluetooth and MDI are options worth $550 and $270, and that it has Euro Number Plates, then I add the cost up to $78,159.70 with the spreadsheet calculator for NSW (with updated rego and ctp). Therefore $75,000 is a saving of 4.04%. Considering it IS registered as a demo, and if it's not an MY12, it's not necessarily "new stock"... I think that's pretty crap to be honest.

If it IS a MY12 and therefore new stock and really hasn't been driven by any other customers yet, then it's cost would only be $77,038.71 with the Euro number plates, as Bluetooth and MDI are standard features. This makes $75,000 only a 2.65% saving... even though that's a new car ready to go... still pretty crap.

Having said that, it's literally all the options and is available now... so...

                • Thank you Corey
Would you say... I'm not getting a good deal, but the car is worth the asked price ?
The problem is to find a car with similar specs to compare prices, there is one R, similar spec on a popular website for $79613
Just don't want to find out later that I could have got the car for a much better price
                  Considering is ready for delivery???

                  • to be honest mate IMO if it is worth the price to you does it really matter? a car is worth only as much as youre willing/able to pay.

Exactly. Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
So if you want the car, you've got the money, and you've done your homework and searched around and just cannot find a better deal, then go for it.

You probably could get the R, with those specs, for a much better price. But....you'd have to wait 6-12 months.

So, I guess it comes down to time vs money. Whichever is more important to you - then go with that option.

I got an excellant deal on my R ($8000 off the drive away RRP) - but that $8000 saving came with a 6 month wait. Then again, I wasn't in any rush, and was happy to wait.

                        • Thanx guys
                          Dreamention made a good point
If it means I would have only saved an extra 3 to 4 grand, the car I have at the moment is due for a major service soon and may need some new tyres..
I think it makes sense to pay the extra money
                          Thanx again

                          • At that kind of money I would go for a S3 or a 135i to be honest.

I managed to get mine at a smidge over 51k driveaway due to not many options and some haggling. At that price, to me, an R is not quite as good value. But it is your car. If you are getting the car you want at a price you can afford, good for you.

Why? The S3 would cost almost $100k with those options! I'm sure you'd be able to negotiate it down to $90k though

True. But I’m one of those odd people that get to a stage of optioning up a car and then go, stuff it, I’ll get the better car though. Like I did with the golf. It’s purely a personal view for me, but as I said, if he’s happy, go for it.
