I'd definitely say it is not a necessity, i don't have it and find the ride and handling to be great, however if i had the choice again i probably would opt for it just to be able to have the versatility it offers depending on how you wish to drive the car at any given time.

Top 3 on the options list.

Love the DCC. The ability make it nice and soft, on rough roads.. or even just use the soft setting when you go to the GYM and the arms are ****ed (steering lightens up as well), is awesome!

Get it for sure. If your not tracking and planning on fitting some lowering suspension, get it now. And its damn cool!

How do you make your left mirror drop automatically when you put it in R and make it go back up when you put it in P or D? This would be helpful, as these mirrors are tiny and cant see the bottom of the road!

        • Leave it in the left mirror position.

          • Make sure your mirrors are adjusted for regular driving
            Put the car in reverse
Adjust the left mirror to how you would like it to be whilst reversing
Put the car back in D or P etc.

From then on, whenever you put the car in Reverse, as long as you have the mirror adjustment knob with L selected, the mirror will drop. It'll then automatically go back to the "regular" position when you drive away.

Note that mirror adjustments (as well as most MFI settings) are dependent on which key you're using.

Bear in mind that the auto-dipping mirror only works if you have optioned Park Assist. If you don't have Park Assist, you need to dip the mirror manually whenever you want to see the curb.

Actually, i'm pretty sure it's a standard feature in the R, as it comes stock with park sensors front and rear.
If you mean the self parking Park Assist option, then this is not correct either, as mine dips automatically without this option.

                • You can't get Park Assist with the R so it is a little confusing

                  • Oh, good point AdamD, us Golf R owners sometimes forget that point!

Yes, on anything below the Golf R, you need the Park Assist option. I know this is the Golf R thread, but GTI_Adidas asked the question and he only has a GTI!

Yep, sorry guys, should have clarified that my response was specifically to GTI_Adidas. The R gets the self-dipping mirror standard.

                        • Hi All,

Im extremely new to the forums. Just thought id ask the question which is burning in my mind. For those that ordered the car with 18" wheels (and had it delivered), do you wish you had now gone the 19s?

Ive ordered a pretty basic R because for the little bit extra, it seemed worthwhile getting the R. My Specs are 5DR, DSG, Candy White, MDI, BT. After corp discount i ended up getting it for $51600 on the road which seemed like a good deal at the time and Im now only a month away from getting it.

Looking forward to your thoughts on the 18s v 19s.

                          • I definitely don't wish I'd gone for the 19s

                              • hmmm, I can see ill end up buying the 19s outright.

Dont know if there is going to be much of a market for the 18s if i try to sell them though
