If there are any posts or information from the previous thread that you feel is valuable and should be included at the start of this thread, please point it out and I'll include it.

Golf R Price Calculator Spreadsheet This pricing calculator is "unofficial" and was created by me. Most recently updated for 2010 - 2011 financial year and to account for rego changes in NSW on Aug 8. Please see this post for details on the calculator spreadsheet.
Price difference between Golf GTI and Golf R:
The Golf GTI 3 door manual costs $38,990, so "base to base model" there is $9,500 difference. However, the Golf R's standard items contains several of the GTI's options:
Metallic Paint $500
Bi-Xenon $2,000
18" Wheels $1,200
Tinted rear glass $400
This brings the cost difference down to $5,400.
In addition, the Golf R also includes front and rear PDC which is worth around $1000, bringing the difference to around $4,400. It also includes the highly desirable LED taillights which GTI owners are spending upwards of $1,000 to have fitted - $3,400. You then have AWD, a more powerful engine, better brakes, better suspension etc...
Of course, some people just want a base model. Other people select many options, so the difference in cost between a Golf GTI and Golf R will really come down to each person's requirements. Either way, both cars are great value.
