After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

It should be pull back to change up and push to change down. At least the paddle shift is the right way round - if you have it.Looking for:- RS4 B7 Avant.

That said, it is the exact opposite to what one would expect for a "clutch-pedal-less" manual where you might expect to pull the lever back to go up a gear and push it forward to go down a gear, but then that's you and me (at least)

The story goes when Porsche made tip-tronic, they thought that the bimbo blonde women that would be purchasing it wouldn't understand the logic behind having it the correct way (back for up, forward for down), so they put it the wrong way (forward for up, back for down). Now we're stuck with having it the wrong way around... boo

My 2 cents.
I find I change down multiple gears more than I do up Eg. 7th to 5th or 4th etc. For me flicking the stick downwards is an easier and quicker motion than pushing up. I'm even worse off. When I drive my FPV I pull back to change up and push fwd to change down (the correct way), then when I get in the R its the other way around (the wrong way). Now i get confused when I switch between cars.......nice problem to have though and the paddle shift helps when I drive the the R but no such help in the FPV.

The DSG transmission selector is not a physical connection to the gearbox. It is handled electronically, so VW should be able to swap things around by software. It would be great of all you had to do was take the selector out and swap two cables around, but doing it by software would be just as easy.
By all means leave it as it is by default, just give owners the ability to swap it around.
