COOLANT LEVEL
I just noticed my Cold level is about 3mm below "low".
My Hot level is a little lower at 5mm.
MY handbook states that the hot level may be above the Max i.e. meaning it rises. Is the book wrong?
The gauge says the temperature is normal.

If you Google the part number and brand 33971 Febi you will find places in the UK selling them (which is where I got mine from). I found one place locally selling them on ebay Febi Bilstein Genuine New Replacement Wishbone Bush 33973 4027816339731 | eBayOriginally posted by GolfR64 View PostDo you have links for the Audi TTS bushes

There is absolutely no need to look at importing a basic brake disk replacement from overseas when you can readily buy plenty of options locally. And with how heavy brake disks and pads are, you will pay a fortune in freight costs to bring in from overseas.Originally posted by GolfR64 View PostNeed some insight on brakes on Mk6 R whether to go with DBA or offerings from FCP euro along with pads to suit. Have a look on Run Auto Parts who are a European parts specialist supplier. They have Pagid and Bosch brake disks for the Mk6 R. Nothing wrong at all with DBA of course and there are plenty using them, but there are other options. The Mk6 R uses 345mm vented disks on the front and 310mm vented disks on the rear.
The Bosch's are on sale which makes them quite attractive from a price point.
If you want DBA, then somewhere like Brakes Direct would be a good place to buy them from.
Fronts:
Front Brake Discs 345mm Hella Pagid 8DD 355 109-541_2pcs for Audi VW Skoda
Bosch Front Brake Discs 345mm BD1071 | Run Auto Parts
DBA2808 DBA Street Series Standard Brake Rotor (note you need to order 2)
Rears:
Rear Brake Discs 310mm 54407PRO Hella Pagid 8DD 355 112-121_2pcs for VW Skoda Audi
Bosch Rear Brake Disc Rotors 310mm BD1166 | Run Auto Parts
https://brakesdirect.com.au/aus/dba2...ake-rotor.html (note you need to order 2)
As for brake pads, if you just want a replacement pad then have a look at the options on Run Auto Parts or Brakes Direct. I would recommend a ceramic pad for normal street driving as they are a much cleaner pad (much less dust on your wheels) but good quality ceramic pads like Akebono Ceramic / ATE Ceramic / Brembo Ceramic are more expensive than normal replacement pads.

Rear pads:
As for bushes, I would replace with factory bushes or in some cases, you can use bushes from the Audi TTS which has more solid bushes. Another option if you want aftermarket is Superpro or Whiteline who make polyurethane replacement bushes and control arms etc for the Golf.
Here is a link to my old car, a Mk6 GTI. I replaced the lower control arm bushes with the Audi TTS ones. You can see the difference and also the part number if you want to buy them yourself: https://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums...ml#post1033681Last edited by Lucas_R; 08-06-2022, 07:53 PM.

Golf R Observations and Questions
Timing belts snap or break apart, whereas timing chains stretch and can potentially snap but its rare.Originally posted by GolfR64 View PostSorry for the Double post on the timing Belt..I need to know about the OBDEleven scanning for Timing Belt stretching as in can be used for Timing Chain Stretch..Is this doable and How
cheers
If you are worried about the condition of your timing belt, remove the cover and give it a good visual inspection. Look for cracking and other deterioration.
Timing belts are recommended to be changed every 5-6years or 105,000km. Its about $1k to change the timing belt (parts, tensioners, water pump and labour) but if it snaps it will cost you a lot more than $1k.
Given your car is 11yrs old with 150,000km you should be currently on your 2nd timing belt and getting close to replacing it again shortly.Last edited by Lucas_R; 30-03-2022, 09:25 PM.

It wont hurt to move to a 5w-40 if you want to, but I would normally only suggest this if your engine is burning oil as the 5w-40 is slightly thicker when hot so it can help slow down/stop the oil burning.Originally posted by GolfR64 View PostThanks for the tip
With my car at its mid life would you recommend a 5W-40 grade oil and which brand would you consider
Also as This is my first R full mark is it on the dot on the dipstick?
I have used Penrite Enviro+ for years, they have the correct VW approvals and come in both a 5w-30 and 5w-40 spec. I used to use the 5w-30 in my Mk6 R as it was brand new, then when I had my Mk6 GTI I switched over to the 5w-40 as it was older and used to consume a bit of oil. Now I have a Mk7 GTI and use 5w-30 again.
Supercheap/Repco etc all stock the Penrite range so its super easy to get, and they do sales every month or two where the oil will be 20-30% off. So I always buy a few bottles when it's on sale.

Most of the good quality synthetic oils with the correct VW504/507 spec will be $80-90 for a 5L bottle. Just wait until Supercheap/Repco etc have a sale on and buy a few bottles.

Thanks for the tipsOriginally posted by Lucas_R View PostWith 150,000km's it might be time to look at moving to a slightly thicker 5w-40 oil, but it depends on whether your car consumes much oil between oil changes. The Mk6 R engines were hit and miss - some burn oil and some don't.
I got a charcoal canister from ebay (came from China) and it worked well for the year or so I had it before I sold the car. So cant comment on long term reliability.
Here is a locally available part, obviously not genuine. But it saves you having to wait 4-6 weeks for it to come from China: Carbon Charcoal Canister for Audi A3 TT Skoda Octavia VW Golf Jetta 1K0201801E G
And here is a genuine one: 1K0201801E - Evaporative Emissions Canister (EVAP) - Audi 8P, 8J & Vol
– VAGPARTS Australia
Edit. Found a cheaper option that is in Australia on ebay: For VW Golf Jetta MK6 Seat 2010-2013 1K0201801E Carbon Charcoal Canister Hose AU 6458056156051 | eBay
