My Mk6 R has notched up 150000k's and being 11 years old I was thinking if to stick with the Castrol LL 5W-30 or go with another Full synthetic oil,,Also where do I find a well priced Charcoal Canister which I think is in need of replacement...Cheers

Sounds like normal behaviour when you have the air conditioning running? Did you try it without the AC? Also maybe it uses humidity sensor to run fans longer after stop to try to dry system out a bit to inhibit mould growth from memory.Originally posted by checksout View Post. It sounds like the fan's kicking in to cool the car, but it happens almost immediately when turning the engine on. When turning the engine off, after going for a drive, the fan runs for an extra 20 seconds then winds down and shuts off.

I just did my R front brakes, got these DBA bits from Automotive Superstore-Originally posted by Bora Sport View Post2011 Golf R and the brakes are all pretty much due for replacement.
DBA2808S rotors (Street series T2 slotted)
DB2402SP pads (Street performance)
Price was not too bad (~$500), so far dust seems reduced and I like the look of the slotted rotors.
But if you go for the basic flat rotor DBA2808E or the TRW cheapie and say Bendix DB2402-EURO+ pads, would save a reasonable amount.Last edited by tonymy01; 11-01-2022, 10:59 PM.

Golf R Mach 6 fan noise
Hi everyone, my R mach 6 has started to make a loud fan noise. It sounds like the fan's kicking in to cool the car, but it happens almost immediately when turning the engine on. When turning the engine off, after going for a drive, the fan runs for an extra 20 seconds then winds down and shuts off.
We've had a VW service centre assess it and they have said their tests indicate there are no faults. Clearly something isn't working as it should be as this the car hasn't done this before.
Has anyone encountered or heard of this issue before?

Most cost effective would be plain face Fremax or DBA rotors and Remsa or QFM pads.Originally posted by Bora Sport View PostI just purchased a 2011 Golf R and the brakes are all pretty much due for replacement. I read through the Golf 6 thread and i think the last entry was about October last year. I intend to follow up on a couple of the links supplied there. Does anyone have any more recent suggestions as to which are the most cost effective rotors and pads and where to buy same?

Hit up forum sponsors GSL Rallysport / Brakes Direct and they can offer you several choices for pads and rotors. Bendix or DBA rotors are a popular replacement matched to a ceramic or low dust pad.Originally posted by Bora Sport View PostI just purchased a 2011 Golf R and the brakes are all pretty much due for replacement. Still doesn't answer my question.Originally posted by AdamD View PostAny high-rev limiter has nothing to do with getting a better launch (or anything else attributed to "launch control"), and all about preventing drivers from side-stepping the clutch on the limiter and destroying the clutch, gearbox, or other driveline components. This is particularly important for high-powered cars with a lot of mechanical grip, where big-rev launches can be very brutal with little or no benefit to acceleration figures.
Some cars have it because their manufacturers have decided it's warranted on a particular model (could be due to hardware specifics/characteristics, the nature of buyers in the market, etc etc).
I asked on a different board and had my question answered.
Thanks.

i would say the engine is very solid (old design and has been thru many revisions) and tested tried abused worldwide and can do 10s on the 1/4m with stock internals and APR Stg3 kit reliably.Originally posted by Ryan_R View PostJust a general question to throw out there - how are all the R's going? fuel consumption not the best if compared to newer engines (that run hotter and leaner).

Any ideas??

A lot of the manuals have a limiter on free-revving around 4000-5000rpm - it's not launch control though

Launch control is a feature of the DSG transmission; manual Golf Rs do not have LC.Originally posted by Disciple View PostDoes anyone know the circumstances for the launch control on the manual models?
The other car you've driven may have had a feature added via ECU programming to limit revs to a predefined limit when stationary or under certain other conditions, but it's not standard behaviour.

Question in relation to MK 6 Golf R launch control in manual cars.
I've driven one before that was stage 2 and at idle if you flatten the gas, it would build revs to I think 4k.
Our Golf R is stage 2+ and doesn't seem to do this at all.
Does anyone know the circumstances for the launch control on the manual models? What it's supposed to do? Did the stage 2+ tune remove mine?
Also, it's still on the stock clutch, what's a good upgrade for these and who would I take it to in SE QLD?
Cheers!
