Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    • First is not likely

Second has nothing to do with induction noise

      Thanks though

            • Power is good

              Induction noise is bad

              So, live with it then.

Guess I was hoping an intake mod might turn it down a notch

              • hmm I like induction noise.. maybe cold air intake will fix it.. allow it to breath better.. ask the folk that have done this

                  • Don't CAI mods make the induction noise louder? Mr Hawk posted comparison videos for his 118 TSI cab.

Can't say that I've noticed any increase in induction noise over stock.

As far as my experience goes - yes.

                          Forge Twintake = louder
                          AWE intake = louder
                          VWR intake = louder
APR Carbonio = little bit louder

Those are the intakes I have heard. I'm sure the other brands are much the same.

The APR Carbonio is the quietest, but it's still a bit louder than stock. If you don't like the sound of your R's induction noise, then your going to HATE the C63 if you end up getting one. They are loud and obnoxious ALL the time (idling / slow cruising / full throttle etc). I had a C63 estate for a day last year - personally I loved the sound.

If you drive with your windows up 100% of the time you may not notice and difference in noise Len. I also have the VW Racing intake and I can assure you it's much louder than stock. Next time you take your car out, put your window down and give the car some throttle.

                            • Maybe covering the intake inlet with muffling material (i.e. stockings etc) will reduce the intake sound.

Any form of modified intake will only make it louder as Lucas stated since most people want it louder.

Fair enough. The C63 was a ripper. I only had it for a 24hr period though. You should start saving for tyres now - the rear ones wont last long at all. It wants to spin the tyres and go sideways ALL the time. And its only got narrow 255 section tyres. The one i drove only had 18,000km on it and the previous owner said it was its 3rd set of rear tyres. Yes 3rd set in 18,000km!!

I dare say whatever Viezu are working on intake-wise will be louder than stock as well. You could try removing the plastic hose that goes from the engine cover to the grill, and getting a custom made pipe made up from the engine cover down to the space behind / below the passenger headlight?? Add a 2nd air filter (pod style) at the end of that pipe and it might help to quieten the intake noise down?? It wont look pretty (and personally i wouldnt do it) but if you want to quieten it down, that might be a solution.
