Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • We must work for the same company. Mine refused because...

firstly they thought the letter said the car had to be registered in my name
then they said we werent a member (which we are)
then it was because the didnt understand what VWA wanted by the letter being signed
and because it was unfair to other employees if I got this discount (on a program which we are a member of) even though if I bought a Ford they would sign an identical letter to FoMoCo.

and finally because I could get the discount anyway if I leased and took out finance with MacBank who is the SGFleet financier. I told them I didnt want to do min kays each year, nor did I want to finance with Satans Bank and nor did I want to tie myself into a finance contract for a car.

Anyway they took so long to tell me this that I ended up buying the car anyway for retail and the discount I got (12.21%) was about as much as I would have got with the letter. In the end it just wasnt worth the ****ing around.

Maybe we work for the same IT company?

I work for a state government department. I need about 4 gazillion signatures before anything happens.

I've been told straight out that they aren't going to sign the document. For some bizzare reason. Despite saying they would before.

Grrrrrrr. Now I need to deal with the dealer again and get this sorted. What I worked out was only around $500 less than what I had managed to bargain them down to, so no big loss.

HR. What a waste of space.

      • Just sign it yourself... Really, who's going to check?

From what I understand the dealer just has to keep it on record for VWA, no one actually cross checks anything. Shhhhhh...

        • This is due to the template wordings that they insist on for the fleet discount letter. Words such as entitlement, salary sacrifice, scare your underpaid HR person.

It should really be just a simple letter to state that you are a staff on the company letterhead - now that should be a no brainer for HR.

          • But then it would miss the point of the corporate discount.

It's not meant for someone who just works at a corporation. It's meant for someone who works at a corporation and is getting the car as part of an entitlement or salary sacrifice etc...

I work for 3 companies on the VW corporate discount list... yet I just negotiated regularly because I know that I would have asked someone to lie to sign the letter and I wasn't willing to do that. I'm surprised at how many people are willing to....

            • But I WAS getting a car as part of an entitlement / salary sacrifice. My arrangement is tax deductable, I keep a log book etc however I do not want to lease through SGFleet/MacBank so I choose to do it privately.

It is part of a salary sacrifice for me.

                  Just frustrating.

I'm going to just pay the extra and be done with it. it's only $500 or so. I'm sick of dealing with HR and car dealers and just want it over.

                      • My GTD was ordered on 3 December 2010. Three months and still no build date.... Dealer has indicated up to five months to be delivered once they start building.

However, the good news for VW is that they have delived 750,000 vehicles for first time in period to February. That means mine must be up for production soon.....

                              • I ordered my Golf R on 9 August last year. It was built on 11 February and loaded on to the Torino on 1 March. The Torino is due in Port Kembla on 11 April. I had an almost 10 month wait for my current ride, a MKV GTI, so I'm used to playing the waiting game!
