Last week I placed an order for a MY11 Golf GTI 5-Door DSG, Candy White, 18" Detroits, RVC and Bluetooth. I got it for what I feel is a pretty good price of $45,500. I reckon if it wasn't for this forum, and this thread in particular, I would have been paying somewhere in the region of $47k, so thanks!
Isn't the internet awesome?

In any case, wish OP best of luck. This is not meant to discourage OP from trying - just hope he doesn't get "laugh at" by the sales guy when he disclose his target price.2011 Mk6 GTI | CW | DSG | Bi-Xenon | GIAC | APR TBE | THS FMIC | Modshack

I was pricing up a basic 5-door GTI w/ xenon's, but damnit some of the option prices are just too good... like $500 for the fancy Reverse Camera, which looks like a PITA to try and retrofit later.
Anyway, in case someone has ordered a similar spec & feels like replying with the price they managed, I'm now looking at:
MY11 Golf GTI 5-Door DSG, Candy White, 18" Detroits, Bi-Xenon's (PXT), RVC, MDI, Bluetooth.
Aiming for $45k onroad, which is 14.37% discount w/ my CTP estimate. I'll be keeping my existing plates, not sure how that'll work out, but I'm assuming the $80 standard plates for the calc.
GTI 5-Door DSG, Carbon Steel, 18" Detroits, sunroof, tint, reverse sensors, and got a free ipad thrown in. Btw, I didn't have any corporate discount.
Although we have different options, their prices are quite comparable. So don't see why you can't get something close to 45k.Last edited by kjto1; 01-01-2011, 10:15 AM.

The RRP onroad for MELBOURNE for that is $52,094.70 - so the discount is about 12.47% - which is quite an impressive effort at that price point.
shauno's car though is $47,710, or $52,551.00 on the road in SYDNEY (notice that for $20 diff in car price, there is ~$450 diff in onroad price, and that goes to the gov, not he dealer, so it's not negotiable...), and then to have an additional $600 discount in addition to what you got, to get to a 14.37% discount... it's just pushing it.Last edited by Corey_R; 01-01-2011, 10:27 AM.

I actually only went to one dealer and got the stock standard price with probably a $1K discount.
Then....here's the trick
I called up Barloworld (wont disclose which one). Told them i wanted a fleet price and asked the poor dealer on the phone that i would give him my credit card number if he could do it fully optioned (minus the rear camera - waste of money in my opinion), with euro plates, tints & factory bluetooth for $54K (I just took off a nice round figure from the first dealer - $12K) and gave him my phone number, told him to talk to his boss and call me back if he could do it. I knew he would be able to do it, but I told him either way i was going to buy a car today.
He came back to me an hour later with $56,550 drive away. I gave him a $500 deposit (yep $500 - the other $500 is better staying in my account to earn interest in my opinion) over the phone, went in that arvo and signed the paper and the rest was history.
Its true that people make a judgement on you the second they see you. Thats why its better to do things by the phone. I literally was on the phone to him for 10 minutes total. Using Corying's GTI calculator its a 16.55% saving from retail price (or in $ terms >$11K). If I can do it anyone can!
REXman - I can feel your pain. The waiting game is hard. Mine arrives on the 6th Sept and should be ready for collection the week after
Not singling you out specifically, but i am curious as to whether the % discount increases with options ie. they have a much higher buffer in each option than the car itself?
meaning they don't have as much room on the RRP: for a stock manual gti, but can afford to on a fully optioned DSG etc

Hi Guys,
New to this forum - looking at buying a new CW GTI 5 door DSG at the moment, tossing up between taking one a of number of ones in stock around Melbourne (that have leather which i really don't want) as i don't like the idea of waiting 4 - 6 months BUT
the question is - are dealers generally going to give a better deal on a fresh custom order? Theoretically they have no stock holding costs etc AND with cars in stock i suppose they are aware people will pay a premium not to wait...
At the moment an offer i have from a dealer is:
CW GTI 5 door DSG
- Detroits
- Sunroof
- Leather
- MDI & Bluetooth(dealer fitted they are claiming has same functionality as factory?)
- Dynaudio
For 51.5k driveaway which represents 8.19% on the spreadsheet. I'm adamant on paying 50k round for that setup(10%)
BUT
at the end of the day i don't want leather, and figured that if i delete leather i can add Xenons, RVC and ACC for roughly the same price (but have to wait!) in which case the price for the above $51,500 would represent around 10%
Secondly with MY11.5 xenons having LED front lights if i ordered one now would that theoretically be included in my order, or does MY11.5 only start getting built from July 2011? If i could get the new LEDs i would definitely wait!!
Lastly another dealer has the following in stock:
CW GTI 5 door DSG
- Detroits
- Sunroof
- MDI & Bluetooth
for $47.5k - although i really love my music so the question is, how much do you have to spend aftermarket to get it up to similar/better quality than dynaudio?
Thanks

If you can wait, go for factory order as you can get specific options you need only. Otherwise, compromise on your options and get one in stock.
Yes, you are likely to be able to negotiate a better discount for factory order. Long wait, low stock -> laws of supply and demand applies.
FYI, the MY11.5 specs with LEDs integrated Xenons are effective starting week 45 2010.2011 Mk6 GTI | CW | DSG | Bi-Xenon | GIAC | APR TBE | THS FMIC | Modshack
