Big difference in price between the two. RRP of the old polo gti was 28k whereas the base golf is 39k.
I think the drive away price of the golf is about 43k, check out the specification list on the first page and download the speadsheet,
I hope that's a fair deal, starting to feel I should get the Bi-Xenon but that would hike the cost.
I would go for the Bi-Xenons instead of park assist/sunroof personally but up to you of course. The sunroof apparently makes a wind buffeting sound (and can leak in the future).

about 200km on the odo
Been offered for $42k driveaway... Yay or nay?
For that coin you'd almost want brand new MY11.. Its a manual right? with KM's on it so its a Demo? I'd push for $40K and you should both be happy. See how you go though.. But in a few weeks there should be another trickle of Golfs coming through. Good Luck
Posted this in the newbie section, but thought I might get a little more traction down here in the MKVI thread...
I'm about to embark on a sales journey to get myself a new GTI (or possibly R) so wanted to touch base with you guys to get the low down on everything I need to know, particularly, as this is my first "real" car purchase that hasn't been 10 years old and $20k cash!
I've test driven pretty much everything, and had been torn between an A3/A4 with the DSG/GTI engine and the Golf GTI / Golf R - as I was looking for something premium with a look and feel, but after driving both the Audi's I was left very uninspired for the money...
I even looked at the A5 - but apart from amazing looks - it's boring (on my budget that doesn't stretch to the Quattro!)
So after test driving just about everything, I'm pretty sure I want to get the new GTI, and I'm hoping that I can negotiate decently well for one in the next few weeks, but to be honest, I'm not sure what dealers I should be talking to and what Options I actually need...
I'm still assuming that an "R" is a 3-6 month wait, and there will be no negotiation?
I'm pretty flexible for Options, and happy to roll with none, or some, so long as I can get a great deal with reasonably quick delivery time.
So I guess my first questions are on the GTI:
1) What is the best 2-3 dealers in Sydney that I should be talking to?
2) What price should I be looking to negotiate down to?
3) What options should I be pushing for them to include?
4) What "extras" are realistic to push to be thrown in?
5) Who do you guys get insurance through?
6) Service costs? For the first 3 years?
7) APR chip/exhaust - does this void warranty?! Is it worth the $$ in comparison to an R? Would you wait for an R if you could? and would you expect a deal? If so what have people got them for and where!?
In my mind, I'm looking for $40k drive away for a My11 - 2010 plate... ? (is this realistic?) - Stock GTI with MDI and maybe leather... prefer 18's...
Alternatively, what do you guys think a stock DSG R can be picked up for?
There are Golf GTI/R Dealer negotiation threads and price calculators hanging around here - they would be the best place to start.
Plenty of threads on options too - DSG, ACC etc.
Insurance will vary heaps depending on who/where you are. I had the best luck with CGU for my insurance on my R - about $1500 for agreed value (at 67k), plus alot of their standard inclusions are extras with other companies. I'm 28 with a good record in Melb.
APR Chip/exhaust doesn't void warranty... quite... Plenty of info around, but basically, as long as the mod doesn't cause the issue, you are ok. Look for threads on "APR ECU Upgrade" in the Mk6 forum.
There are a few R's around if you want one now - check out Carsales etc. I found one with just a 4 week wait - then cancelled my order which I had been waiting for since August! (was due in May/June...)

Welcome! Firstly, find the GTI pricing spreadsheet and muck around with that a bit. Try to make up your mind on options that are must haves. It is important to make up your mind on what you want specifically. That will determine your strike price - discounts of 8-12% is normally achievable. Maybe a bit more if you have corporate plus discounts.
I suppose any dealer is ok. Maybe try the one closest to you first - just for convenience sake. If they don't want to deal, then go elsewhere.
Note: there are always a group of members here waiting for their order to be delivered - so some level of anxiety is expected here (me included).
So good luck with your "negotiation" and keep us posted.

Hi mate, welcome to the forums. I merged your thread here because as others have already mentioned, you're asking stuff which already exists in threads and if everyone that joined to buy a car started their own thread, well, no one would find anything!
It's quite a long thread, and pretty hard to easily find someone else who's posted a price for the same spec. I gave up after reading through about 25 pages! I've used the calculator, I've even looked at the 'deals' spreadsheet (which only includes 1 GTI?).
I was pricing up a basic 5-door GTI w/ xenon's, but damnit some of the option prices are just too good... like $500 for the fancy Reverse Camera, which looks like a PITA to try and retrofit later.
Anyway, in case someone has ordered a similar spec & feels like replying with the price they managed, I'm now looking at:
Aiming for $45k onroad, which is 14.37% discount w/ my CTP estimate. I'll be keeping my existing plates, not sure how that'll work out, but I'm assuming the $80 standard plates for the calc.
2006 MkV 2.0TDI -> 2005 MkV GTI -> 2008 MkV R32 ->2013 Polo 77TSI + 2016 Mk7 Golf R Wagon
Yes, the answer won't be answered specifically, because it's entirely unlikely that a person who is your age and lives in your suburb and is going to buy from your dealer also has the exact same specs. So you'll only get a "general idea" of what you can achieve, the rest is up to you...
