knew i missed something out! i have edited my previous post - its Manual and 3 door! - corporate plus - dont think so.
also if ordered in the next few weeks would it fall under MY11.5 instead of MY11?

At $45K drive away should be achievable - but without the LED tails.
For a factory order now, it would be MY11.5 specs. This started in week 45 of 2010.

Expect a long wait though - 4-6 months.

hey all just joined the forums cause i'm looking to get a gti and looking for some advice.

I'm looking to get the following and just wondering how much you guys think i can get it down to, i'm hopefully looking at getting around low 40Ks drive away price if possible. Anybody have any good experiences with dealerships in victoria?

- Manual
- Sunroof
- Leather seats
- MDI

Sorry... but low $40k's is dreaming

That configuration in VIC (Melbourne) and standard plates would have a drive away RRP of $48,784.69
So even a 10% discount would be $43,906.22.
15% would be $41,466.99
But I don't believe that there is 15% to be had in a car which is spec'd that lightly and doesn't have the "added discounting benefit" of being in the LCT threshold and the VIC Stampduty thresholds etc.

I knew it was probably too farfetched to get it at that price but i was still hoping maybe someone on this board got a similar spec'd car down to around 41 or 42k.

I guess i'll just shop around and hope i get it at least around 42K if possible. I'll let you guys know how i go cause I'm going to a few dealerships on the weekend.

if you could give some feedback on which dealers you come across that are good and willing to talk (not act like they are the only ones out there) as i will be going to a few over the next couple of w/e's also

i've only been to the dealer at weribee so far and as soon as i started talking about some of the good deals that friends had done or that ive seen on here they went on about how thats unheard of and the like..

on another note - does anyone know if the gti's with optional xenons come equipped with the LED strip in the MY11.5 builds? (i saw on the my-gti website that it is an update on the MY11.5 model for AU - the guys at werribee looked a bit dumbfounded when i asked them this question and said they never heard of it).

Sounds too good to be true...I have my doubts.
Maybe your friend is not telling you the whole story. Demo car? Trade-in involved? Financing deal?

tell me about it! i questioned him many times as i wasnt convinced - but it was brand new, partially financed (didnt ask how much), he still has his old BMW so no trade in.. lol - thats the story i will be putting on the table when we start talking figures at the dealers i visit

only thing i can think of is that i believe there was some promotion VW had around the time he made the deal which involved a discount on the dealer delivery and stamp duty - still all his extras are free one way or another hehe.

My advice to you would be, either go to the dealership your mate bought his car from, use his name, and get the real story.
My other advice would be, don't use your mate's story in any dealership that you actually want to buy your car from. Because after they laugh at you, and then tell you where to go, you won't be able to buy your car from them!

haha thanks Corey - it was a story I was thinkg of using as a last ditch resort if they werent willing to budge too much on the final price

will be doing my own negotiations from the get go, but if they choose to be smart to me, then i will act smart to them lol

Yep i have done my dash with VW dealers - they are not meeting my price (10% discount based on spreadsheet) so they are not getting my business. Got within $250 with one dealer, would you believe, $250 and he wouldn't come down, so he hasn't got my business (even gave him 15 digits of my credit card number to show commitment)

Has anyone had any experience with dealers who are more desperate now its towards the end of the month with budgets/quotas to meet?
