  • When I ordered my car last week, it was $2,100 for the new Bi-Xenon's with DRL on the price list...

... however, the dealer charged $2,000 (old price) on the paperwork, which was automatically generated by the computer system.

They are probably not too worried about the price rises, as it doesn't count for much when you start negotiating a driveaway price.

I would definitely just get a 5dr DSG, RVC, XENONS, 18s, ACC, BLUETOOTH and DYNAUDIO.. In that order!
Thanks, thats helped clear up my leather conundrum. If available I'll grab most of the options you list, but I don't know if acc or dynauido will make the cut to get it under 50k. I hope my bargaining skills are in order, any tips for getting a sound price on the outset?

Thanks too AdamD for your reply. Between yourself and rex I'm sold on the rvc and bt.

Quick question, my10/my11 - Are these the build year of the car? And am I going to notice a drastic price difference?

Is the 2011 model going to come with a wait? When I spoke to a Sydney dealer he said he had 30 GTIs in stock, half in cloth. Are these likely to be 2010 built?

        Thanks for your help

          Hey Bertie,

The price should be negotiated for a MY11.

Think of the MYXX numbers as identifiers that refer to what the car has on it in terms of options.. More so than a build date.

Example: MY11 GTI models have a xenon option. Costs $2000 and it gets you xenon lights with a washer system. These are built after July 2010.

          Further,
MY11.5 cars from the GTI range that are optioned with Xenons will have DRL strip in the headlight cluster. This is specific to the model MY11.5. MY11.5s are made post Oct 2010 (thereabouts someone else will no exact month).

MY12s will be built in 2011.

So the MYXX refers to the model and specification.. The build date refers to when that particular car was actually built.

So my car I think is SEPT/Oct build MY11 model.

If you got a 2010 MY10 you couldn't get the Bluetooth fitted from factory.

          Anyways,

You should try and get the list for close/under by a smudge than $50k. (for a MY11 brand new)

And yes it depends on who will look after you best.
          2010 MY11 GOLF R - 5DR | DSG | RISING BLUE | DYNAUDIO + ACC + BLUETOOTH + 19s + RNS510 |

          2017 MY17 TIGUAN HIGHLINE - 5DR | DSG | PEARL BLACK | SUNROOF + DAP |

$47k drive away - no Corporate Plus discount, just a straight out retail negotiation and purchase. I think its a good deal for a car in stock which I can have at the end of the week. According to the calculator thats a saving of 12.21% over retail. Very happy and appreciate the valuable intelligence gleaned from this site and the other members.

I rang a few dealers in Sydney and surrounds yesterday - most simply didn't get back to me, a couple quoted me straight full retail and weren't prepared to do any negotiation on the phone, some wanted me to come into their showrooms before they would even discuss what was in stock and only three actually engaged in price discussions with me - I got the car from the one who called me back and was prepared to talk turkey over the phone.

            Thanks.
Which dealer ended up doing the deal?

            • Golf GTI Purchase

              Hi Guys,

Need your help. I have a Polo GTI order on order, but have decided to scrap that and buy a Golf GTI. Just went to the dealership then and they have offered me a 3dr white Golf GTI DSG for $40,500 inc corporate discount. Is this a good price, or can I get cheaper? Also, I want the 18in wheels but that is a $1200 extra so I my see if he can throw that in. I want to purchase on Monday so any information would help.

If that is on road that's a pretty good price. Is it in stock, a demo or on order? Any options?

If it has a sunroof and you don't want it let me know where it is

No options, just DSG. I want to add the 18 inch detroits too so i'll see what they can do in terms of price.

back in Sep10 I managed to negotiate a CW 5dr manual w/ sunroof for $41500 w/ corporate disc. So, take out the sunroof and the 5/3 doors price differences, add back DSG and that should be a good price for you.

The 18" detroits, some dealers are happy to just take $1200 and swap the denvers with detroits from another car. other dealers want to charge you the full rrp on the detroits + tyres.

Just wondering, can anyone explain what the corporate discount is and how you qualify for it?

you just have to get a letter from your professional association to confirm that you're a current member and give it to the dealership after you have signed the contract and before you collect the car.

In my case I spent part of my life away from social life in completing my Grad Dip Chartered Accountants, then become a member of the ICAA, just to get VW corporate discount! :p

Other the professional associations can be:
CPA, Australian Medical Assoc (AMA), etc.....

There should be one or more professional membership bodies for most professional careers in dentistry, doctors, lawyers, accountants, blah blah blah.....

                        • nat225 thanks. I think I am eligible. I've seen people get good prices with and without corporate discounts, would you suggest to use it or is old fashioned negotiating better?

                          • IF you are eligible, then using a corporate discount helps regardless part (1/2?) of the rebate comes from VGA. So it allows you to get just that little bit extra than you'd be able to negotiate otherwise.
