The RRP for a 3 door GTI DSG with NO options on the road is ~$45,777 - so the fact you can get "$45K ish" for metallic paint, leather and sunroof, is already an excellent deal. The 5 door one, is alright... so unless you have missed something from the 5 door car, it's obvious which one they'd prefer to sell you.
But given the excellent price on the 3 door they've already got, I don't think you'll get Xenons in there as well (removal of metallic paint is offset by RVC which cost the same). That's just too much of a large % discount without the "LCT discounting assistance" of a more spec'ed up car.
On the 5 door yes, on the 3 door no - I think you've misinterpreted something to come to that conclusion. Put it this way, IF you were able to get that 3 door car with the Xenons for $45k flat, that would be the largest % discount we've EVER seen on a car of such a low RRP....
unfortunately they offered him a great deal up front he didnt have to negotiate at all and has taken it for granted.
$47k drive away - no Corporate Plus discount, just a straight out retail negotiation and purchase. I think its a good deal for a car in stock which I can have at the end of the week. According to the calculator thats a saving of 12.21% over retail. Very happy and appreciate the valuable intelligence gleaned from this site and the other members.
I rang a few dealers in Sydney and surrounds yesterday - most simply didn't get back to me, a couple quoted me straight full retail and weren't prepared to do any negotiation on the phone, some wanted me to come into their showrooms before they would even discuss what was in stock and only three actually engaged in price discussions with me - I got the car from the one who called me back and was prepared to talk turkey over the phone.
Thanks.
Fantastic! Minus bluetooth that is exactly what I want...
Hi all,
Looking to get a 5DR GTI DSG under 50k, preferably with MDI, BT, Leather.
Is the RVC a good replacement for rear sensors which I'm used to, or should I go for park assist? and is a BT aftermarket solution just as well integrated?
Leather makes getting any other options prohibitively expensive. I only test drove in leather because of my aversion to static but now realise it's probably wise to drop it in favour of Xenons, 18s and possibly Dynaudio. How is the standard seat material?
Thanks for your help. I may also drop to the 118TSI but will try not to, has anyone else been in the same situation - going for low-optioned GTI or high-optioned 118?
Hey Bertie.. I would definitely take the xenons, 18s and say Dynaudio- over the leather!
Also I believe the RVC has so many real world uses I would save the money spent on parking assist and sensors.
Honestly, with the RVC - you can literally see everything even your bumper bar! So you always know if you can reverse - even if it's just an inch! Parking Sensors will just beep- but when they are doing that constant beeping sound - you are still about a foot away and it's not the most ideal feedback for a tight spot!
The auto parking.. I don't know..
The bluetooth fully integrates the phone books and phone calls very tidily.
Lastly, the GTI interior looks beautiful in the standard trim. The leather sort of blacks out the details a bit much so it looks like every other car with leather.. (no offense leatheree's).
I would definitely just get a 5dr DSG, RVC, XENONS, 18s, ACC, BLUETOOTH and DYNAUDIO.. In that order!
This is just one mans opinion.. But I stressed between the GTI/R ordering process for about 8 months so I have though about my needs!
The 18s for example.. The rubber alone would set you back almost $2000. Amd you get nice wheels instead of all the copy crap that cost $2000 anyway.

Definitely get the RVC - it's a fantastic device, as REXman says, and at $500 is the best value option you can buy on a GTI in my opinion.
Can't comment on the xenons as I don't have them, and am perfectly happy with the performance and look of the halogens. Many xenon owners swear by them. Also can't comment on the cloth as I have leather, and am glad I spent the coin on it - love that leather smell!
The new factory bluetooth is far and away the most compatible, best performing and most cost-effective BT solution. If you want BT connectivity, get it from the factory, and skip the aftermarket alternatives. (I don't have BT, but am considering retro-fitting the factory kit, which is possible.)
I would advise against dropping to a 118 personally, unless you're keeping the car for a long time and really want the convenience of options. Accessories and options retain negligible value come selling time, and while they may make the car easier to sell, they won't add much at all to the price you'll be offered. A heavily-optioned 118 will be worth far less than a similarly-priced base GTI, from the moment both are driven out of the showroom.
I got this printout from my local dealer about 3 weeks ago (disregard the circles, just the options i was after) - if anyone has a better RRP price on any of the below then please share Note: the figures are all almost identical to that of the price calculator spreadsheet on the 1st page of this thread.

Hey Timmy10.
All your questions are answered in the first post of this thread.
Please check out the GTI Price Calculator Spreadsheet. It has the base costs, the costs of all the options, and the costs of all the onroads (with links so you can even calculate specifically what your mates onroads should be). Dealer delivery can still vary from dealer to dealer, but that spreadsheet will prepare you with everything you need.
Btw, the metallic paint costs are wrong in that screenshot above, hence why it's always good to do your research before walking into a dealer
Edit: The other catch with print outs like that, is that the "onroads" change each time you select an option, and can vary for person to person anyway - thus you really need to use a calculator

yep thats why i mentioned the spreadsheet on page 1 lol!
and i dont think the paint cost is necesarily wrong - these guys just charge more lol! i was there last w/e and it was still the same cost for the extras as in my printout.

$200 for a set of LED's.. considering the change actually cost VW about $10-$20 on each car if that lol.
how do they justify these costs (not just VW but manufacturers in general).
