  • price of a brand new GTI?

    Hi all,

I've had a good read through this thread - i'm discussing a few cars at the mo MK6 GTI, 4 door, DSG with 18 in wheels (no other options)

its looking like $45k ish - which i think is ok

or $44 k with no options

Any idea's of whether or nor this is a good deal? I've heard of some proper bargains on here but thought i'd get thoughts etc

    Cheers

        • and when dealers are asking close to $59k for a GTI with xenon, nav, leather, like this one
it's really becoming out of my budget and IMHO not worth to spend on such a small hatch, as it's getting into medium premium sedan territory with bigger space...

What a rip! I have a similarly-specced car and paid vastly less - I think we all did. Got to feel sorry for anyone who falls for that price.

              • Settle down guys.

The price is within a few hundred (less!) of the calculator. It's a brand new car from a dealer. You are stupid if you think a dealer is going to advertise substantially LESS than the RRP on a new car, because otherwise everyone comes in and STILL EXPECTS 10% off the already discounted price they advertise!

Want proof? Just talk to Dermot. He tried advertising his cars with a discount and customers were simply unreasonable, so he put the prices back up!

The only thing which is concerning about the ad that you guys linked is that the pictures do not match the description (No leather, no sat nav, and I can't see whether it has a sunroof or not).

I'm not keen to post specifics on a public forum, but I will say my discount percentage was well into double digits. Some people suggest it's extremely difficult to get a good deal when buying in SA, but I managed a great price after obtaining a couple of interstate quotes, and being prepared to accept one if needs be.

I was very happy with the significant discount I ended up with.

From memory there is another thread here somewhere that's specifically on dealer discussions on the prices. Try search for that thread.

                        • I rang four dealers almost three weeks ago. Gave them the list of what I wanted, my full contact details. TOld them I was open to colour choice depending on availability and was happy with delivery from end of Q1 2011 but would put down an immediate deposit.

Also mentioned the range I was hoping to buy the car at - between $47.5k and $50k and that I had approval for Corporate Discount from HR.

To date I have not received a single return phone call from any of these dealers. Wow I guess its all great in dealerland at the moment huh?

Got a quote to lease through work but I really dont want to lease through work. Would rather buy the car myself and arrange my own financing and tax treatment.

So what am I doing wrong? This approach has worked with my last 7 cars.

                              • Fair price IMHO depending on how much (i.e. pedantic) you are about those 200kms.
