In the beginning there was TFSI, Turbocharged Fuel Stratified Injection, as used in Golf GTIs, Jetta turbos etc, turbo only engines. Then along came the 1.4 twincharger engine known as the TSI engine. In their wisdom, VAG then decided to rename TFSI engines to TSI thereby creating confusion. Jetta 2.0 TFSI became Jetta 2.0 TSI, not a twincharger, still the same BWA engine.

My new Eos has the same engine as my previous Jetta TFSI but is clearly marked as TSI. VAG simply created mass confusion with this change of terminology.

      What VW Convert just said.

To confuse things even further, the 3.0 V6 supercharged engine in the Audi S4 is also referred to as a TSI.

        • It only creates confusion to VAG geeks who don't really know as much as they think they know

The unwashed masses don't give a toss about the TSI on the bootlid of their shiney new Golfs et al. They just appreciate the way it drives.

          • so further to a couple of earlier comments, CAR mag (UK) noted it wasn't coming out in CW...and that was disappointing news.

however, jump to vw germany configurator...golf R is up...and they are showing it's available in CW. fingers crossed, a colour available for aus market.

funny thing is...it doesn't show it in the blue pearl... "rising blue"

go to link, click on "konfigurator" on left hand side.

oh and the scirocco R too...

I'd say they still have some work to do on that configurator for the R though. There are many options which appear twice with different wording. Like "Option VW Individual" and "Option Volkswagen Individual".

Amusingly, the GTI has nearly 40 colours available according to that configurator. So again - you can only use these things as a guide, just cause something is availabe in another country doesn't mean it will be here.

              • According to the latest motor magazine, the R will come with Haldex Gen4, which transfers power to the rear before it senses slip in the front, and can also send 100% to the rear.

all it needs is front suspension that is not tuned to understeer, and a swithc you can send 100% to the rear by choice, and youve got yourself a tail happy rear drive oversteerer!!

oh definately use it as a guide. i was suggesting that CAR UK claimed CW not available, although CW appears to be available in germany, hence "fingers crossed CW will be available to aus". at the end of the day VW Aus dictates what colours they make available. perfect example is UG mkv gti took years to come out, as well as CW mkv R32.

re: 40 colours for the GTI...it wouldn't surprise me if this was offered to the German market only. after all, it is the people's car. offering 100 different colours wouldn't be a hard ask for VW given that the cars are made there.

                    can anyone confirm this?

Yeah - that info was in the official Golf R press release from VAG a month ago.

                            • As I said before, I expect pricing to be on par with the outgoing R32 .... drop in import duty and the price sensitivity around $60K are the indicators here ....

I am very sensitive on the price as $5K too much IMO will see me ditch the R and go for a S3 .....

VWA, you'd better be sharpening those pencils ...... or buyers will ditch you in droves ....

                              • I personally prefer the Golf over the S3. With a Sunroof in the S3, I have troubles setting in the back of an S3. I'm only 5'10". Lean forward a bit and my head hits the 'bump' in the roof from the sunroof cavity. I'm the shortest in my group of friends and family etc, so this just won't do.
There are other issues I have with Audi. Charging so much for an arm rest for example, when it's in the Golf as standard. Flat bottom steering wheels, extra. I mean come on.. this is a $69k hatchback (base model RRP, +taxes and onroads etc) and you're paying for things which come standard on a $39k Golf GTI. It's just not right

Edit.... Actually, I've just noticed that Audi now have price lists back on their site. The base model Audi S3 3rd manual is $78,718 drive away in NSW. So yeah, I don't think that potential Golf R customers are all of a sudden going to be heading over to the Audi dealership enmass any time soon
