    • My guess is it will be pretty similar to R32 pricing.
If it was any more you'd just get an S3 as there are some pretty good deals being had.

      • i wonder what the difference is between the 188 and 199KW ex factory? Probably just an ECU setting.

will both require 98 octane as minimum or 95? and if they are tuned to run on 95 ex factory, I wonder if 98 will deliver better results?

          • I'm sure someone like Maverick knows the diff between the two motors. I don't buy this 188KW stuff 'because of heat' when we've already had the 199KW motor here for months and it don't seem to be worrying any TT-S owners that I've heard of....

            • If it was me getting an R, I'd be reflashing it to 240kw straight up. AWD would handle this more than adequately in my opinion.

Yes, the kW is just a decision. Like colour range, options, sciroccos etc. etc.

I asked the question ''Why not just make it 200 Kw, sounds better''. My understanding from Technical is that getting 199 Kw from European models was a hugh push as is. Germany will not allow it to be stretched that far for Australia. It's unfortunate, but hey, it is what it is.
                  That's a shame, 1kw less than a Rav-4.

It would also be nice to know if the Rocco is coming here either way.

Greg....I think we might just have to be patient. As Dermott has said...... "Not at this time." Which is the almost the same response I received from my source. But it was also baited with "They haven't said no"

Well they've already done it in Australia in another car, so it's not a technical reason - it just sounds like pure political b/s

Sorry, Dermot I didn't explain myself very well. What I meant was that VW in their wisdom decides what we get in Australia. If they can get 199kW in Germany, they could get it in Australia if they wanted to, taking into account what they think is best for their business.

Other car companies do similar things. Without mentioning any names, reducing the rev limit so a cheaper car makes less power than their flagship. Options we just don't see.

Sometimes, quoted power figures are a political decision, like the voluntary "limit" in Japan. I remember the days of "gross" power, engines on a dyno, no alternator, sometimes no water pump and manually timing the distributor to maximise power. Totally irrelevant for real world performance.

I'd still like it if the R made more power than a Mazda3 MPS.

                        • Hey in their infinite wisdom the MkIV R32 was significantly different to that of the Euro spec one. This includes but is not limited to:
                          - US Spec Suspension made up of:
                          - Monroe shocks (very strange damping curve, very soft and not matched to springs [as opposed to Bilstein]).
                          - Taller and softer springs (unsure of brand but not the Euro spec H&Rs).
                          - Thinner front and rear swaybars.
                          - Aussie specific engine [BML]).
                          - Aussie muffler/exhaust which is quieter than Euro spec and also means peak power is produced 500rpm higher.
                          - No DSG option (the DSG system actually debuted on the MkIV R32 in Germany).
                          - A 3" DSG MAF would've been nice (on the manual) as the US spec cars with this actually have a few extra kWs than claimed because of it.
                          - No sunroof option.

There's more but I can't think of it. But yes we never get the best here. JDM spec performance cars are another prime example.

Oh and I'd be surprised it it costed any more than 70k.

                          Cheers,

                          • A mate went into VW this morning and the dealer says it'll be from 50k. As much as I would love to believe it (because I'm getting one next year ), I can't.

                            • So the car has been on order on in Germany for a little while now, but I can't find a brochure or pricelist on the german site yet. I know the configurator is up, but still. Anyone else had more success?

the only indication of price that I have found other than the comments by the VW spokesperson that it would be "competitively priced", is that picture thats floating around of the spec sheet from a dealership in Germany that has it as36,400 EURO which at current conversion equates to around $58k AUD.....im hoping though that theirs will be a bit more expensive because of the standard features....

I can't find the original photo anymore but it was floating around about a week after the unveiling at frankfurt....

here's one but pretty small and crappy quality...
