maybe if VW gets them into showrooms in europe by early Q1 they might have a RHD shipment for Aus ready at the start of Q2 or something...
I placed my order on 14 Feb already ....... (a nice Valentines day present to myself) .... ... 1st in Australia apparently !!!!!!

VWA keeps everything very close to their chests ... not the best IMO, rather feed info consistently through than keep on hiding and denying stuff. They are very poor at managing client relations IMO.

I have a source (family) in VW SA and they are scheduled to get their Rs post July. Apparently RHD production starts around March, but then we have to get an allocation slot earmarked for Oz. This is the reason countries like Japan, South Africa and the UK have had MK6 GTIs for months already and Oz is still waiting ......

So the factors involved are RHD production and then a timeslot & allocation for Oz ..... I'm sorry to say, but I'm not optimistic for a delivery of my R until about this time next year .....

      • Hey guys. I thought I'd do something different and make an Excel spreadsheet which accurately calculates all the on-roads and taxes, and allows you to spec the options you want etc. It's based on information published by VW, RTA, ATO and a few VW quotes which members have published here. It assumes that the Golf R will come in at the same price of the R32. It's a big assumtion, but so far the rest of the MK6 series has done this, so here's hoping!

Also, the onroads are for NSW. I'm not sure how things differ between states.

        Golf R Calculator for NSW.xls

        Hope someone finds it useful

        • Looks to me like a Passat R36 is going to be a whole lot more car for less money at this rate.

          • Using your spreadsheet and my preferred config (manual 5 door with RNS and Dyn upgrade) I figure $65K on road is possible with a corporate discount and some haggling. Not offensive. Certainly not $90K, but as nice as the Recaro's and wheels, etc would be I think the tax makes them too unattractive to consider.

Yeah. You'd have to go pyscho with options to hit $90k, although it would be possible.

Just a word of note, corporate discount is usually not available in the 1st twelve months. Sharkie has also commented on this based on his experience of purchasing many VW models

              • I'd usually not buy a new car in the first 12 months anyway (unless its a Holden which they revise every 6 months but then I wouldn't be buying one anyway ATM) just to let bugs be ironed out and also to let discountng begin. I'm not by nature an early adopter.

                • i know they were posted a while ago but honestly why are people winging at the specs? yes stock standard are a lil underwhelming. but seriously guys this is an s3 2.0T engine which everyone knows if its chipped can produce 322hp with a chip alone.

I think the people who were whinging at the specs were mainly over the 'incorrect 0 to 100 times' which were originally stated as 6.4 seconds or something. It would've been slower than the R32. But fairly quickly VW put out the official press release which stated 5.5 seconds. However, as is typical on the internet, many people didn't bother to look at anything official and keep commenting based on incorrect information

                      • R20T with a Stage 3 kit from APR would be a weapon.
I hope Sharkie goes with that as an option.

Whilst everyone is complaining about stock figures, how many people buy a track spec'd 2L 4Cyl Turbo and leave it stock???

Just go on carsales and see if you can find a stock Nissan Silvia or Subaru Imprezza.
Jeez, it can even be pushed out to supra and commodore owners.
It is nigh impossible because most people will buy their track-spec car for future upgrades to reach it's potential.

                          It isn't twincharged.
It is only running a single turbo.
It was shown at the Frankfurt motorshow and it runs the same engine as the S3.

It wouldn't be the first time and it won't be the last time that a car company gets specs and details wrong about their own product.

e.g. My Tiguan booklet shows the front half of the roof lifting up and sliding back over the rear half for the sunroof and claims it as the panoramic sunroof............
Probably another example of the confusion caused by VAG changing the designation of what was formerly known as TFSI to TSI which formerly stood only for twincharger. I was informed by a service advisor that the Jetta 2.0TSI loan car I had been driving was a twincharger (which of course it wasn't), looks like even the Germans don't understand their own terminology!

                            Cheers

Its just silly how VW are playing around with the TSI designation.
I remember looking at the pics from the frankfurt motorshow. Looking under the bonnet it clearly looks to be an FSI/S3 family engine with the airbox built into the engine cover and the remote DV. But did you see the engine cover? It has TSI written on it in nice shiney lettering! Way to go VW for confusing the issue!
