Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Awesome, how do you mount it ??

I'd put 3 gauges if I'm ever going to do it.

Atm, its simply pressed in there, the shape of the tray pretty much allows it to sit there securly by itself (has done for over a month now)
But there are plans to use black rivets or possibly screws... dunno yet.

I think I measured and found that there isn't enough space for 3 52mm gauge's to fit side by side. But I'd like to be proven wrong

Winding my front passenger window up today, I heard servere crunching and cracking sounds, leaving me to assume the worst.
After I finished work, I came home, tore the trim off and found the cradle that the window sits in like this.....

Completly rotted out with rust, allowing it to buckle and catch on the door frame as I wound it up.
Managed to brace it with some angle aluminium and put it back togther. Works better than before!

Anyone know where you can buy these?
          Thanks

Yep, $409 all up, including that little rubber grommet.
Its booked in to an Auto Eleccy this Tuesday, he'll remove the old compressor/receiver dryer, flush the system, install the new receiver dryer and compressor that I supplied and gas it up. (finger crossed)

Nice work dude. Aircon up nth is a must ! Great price I'm glad it worked out for you

You didn't drive it like that did you? If you drop the bumper you have 2 bolts remaining holding half the car together.......

I actually did drive it like that, although very gentley.
Theres also the rad support plate left for a bit of strength......

Still, probably wasn't the best thing to do in hindsight......

(If anyone ever reads thorugh this, dont drive your MK2 like this, I'm just stupid)

Broke the A/C in today with a good hour or two on the highway.
Its worked FANTASTIC in 35 Degree+ heat and high 70's humidity, both on the highway and in stop start traffic. Not as refined as late model car A/C systems, but it still does a good job.

How much did it cost though? And what did I need?

                              Reciever Dryer - $35
                              Compressor - $400
                              Fitment/flushing and regasing the system - $295
                              Total - $730

Not sure if this helps much, but I did spend a good hour on the condensor straightening the fins and removing all the bugs an rocks before taking it to the A/C tech.

I think I just found a goal for the look of my engine bay.
This is a MK2 that Loon has for sale...(very tidy engine bay)

                                And my engine bay

Same engine and injection system, except i have a crows nest of messy wiring.
