Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Have never used the oil so I would't have a clue as to its 'effectiveness'.
The "Super Shift LS" in my box now has completly changed the feel of the car, its soo easy to drive.

I'd think that any decent and fully synthetic oil would be great in an old tranny, but I won't speculate.

Thanks to the old stock routine of Supercheap, I manged to pick up a brand new 350watt Sony amp for $50!!!!
Once I save up some more money, Ill use it to power some decents 6x9's in the rear, but other things are on the agender atm.

Unfortunatly one of the previous owners before me has cut the shelf and fitted some (very very old) Alpine 6x9's.
They did quite a ****ty job of cutting the holes too, but its been covered up with carpet so its looks respectable.

To 'unmolester' a parcel shelf wouldn't take to much, just graft the right shape plyboard in with some epoxy then recarpet. Atleast I'd think?

I need to think of a stealthy place to place the amp first, don't want to make this car look anything more than stock

That would work but you can't get the original carpet anymore.

Well today I 'casually' went into Autobarn to buy some black wrinkle paint for a gauge project that Im getting close to finishing (piccys will come)

When I was there, I noticed some Philips 6x9's that I had found online (planned on buying) for a good price.
Turns out they were on sale for $79!!!......so I had to get them

300Watt Philips CSP6910 if anybody is interested.

And the descintergrating Alpines that were in my car

I have no idea how good the Philips speakers are compared to the other major brands (Kenwood, Pioneer ect) I bought them on the frequency/audible range and because they have a nice simple look to them, nothing stupid/ricey like green Fusion speakers.

                More pics tomorrow

That makes me feel releived and a little bit more optomistic about hooking and amp up to the speakers

                      Haha, noooope.
Had that bedspread for years, even though I really dont like Holdens (born and raised a Ford man....later converted to a VW spastic )

As the speakers are set up

Now for the gauge fun, this was just a piece of aluminium and with some clever folding, etching and wrinkle paint you end up with this!

                            Gauges pretty much fully installed

                            And at night..

Only complaint is that the 'Voltometre' reads around 1volt out, probably due to its grounding and getting its power from the fuse box.

                            I bought these gauges to
                            1. monitor the alternator (I still don't trust it)
                            2. keep an eye on engine oil pressure, as a drop in oil pressure usually warns you somthing bad is about to happen!

                            Thanks

                                Hey mate,

Gauge setup looks great. So is it the wrinkle paint that gives it the texture?
