Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

      • RBmk6R: I'm very surprised and more than a tad disappointed!

hmm....... given the efforts of your fellow forum members in their attempts to help you fix this problem - the pithy declaration of "SUCCESS" and pictures of working RVC screens in your last post speaks volumes!!

The purpose of forums like this is the sharing of information with your fellow forum colleagues. Clearly from the plethora of replies to your original request - you have been the beneficiary of this forum objective!

I'm not sure if the missing information in your last post was deliberate- so the reason for the omission is unclear (to me at least!)

Maybe a reconsideration of the data-sharing imbalance in your last post might be prudent - entirely your decision, of course?

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

Sorry, my bad....i was just to excited i got the RVC to work....what an ordeal

so here it goes. One of the wires in one of the pictures I posted further up in this thread, (picture that shows the purple and brown wire), well the crimp pin that was crimped on the purple wire was NOT crimped properly, it was crimped on the jacket of the wire and NOT the copper wire itself.....MADE IN CHINA i guess, speaks volumes....LOL

so i soldered the wire to the original pin and VOILA.....everything works as intended.

thanks a lot to all of you guys that helped me with pointers/ideas through all of this.

          • I can understand the excitement you might have had at the success of a RVC image on your head-unit and that this may have contributed to your delayed response.
Well done on persisting with this, and for coming back in to explain what it was for your situation, that required intervention.
Chinese quality has been the bane for all of us at sometime or another. Seems Quality (non) control is still alive and well there.
            Again, congrats. Great outcome.

            • Thanks to all that have helped me through getting this mib2 swap possible, i really appreciate all of your help and inputs.

i have another request though. I want to add a SUB in the trunk, possibly in the spare tire location. i can get the dynaudio sub ( part # 3G0 035 621 C) as well as the 10 channel amp needed (part # 5C6 035 456, as i've been told that i require that as my current amp is an 8 channel amp), but you guys know better as you are the experts here.

how hard of a job is this?? and does aliexpress sell a wiring loom to go from the NEW 10 ch amp to the sub??

also will i have to do anything special and do some vagcom to set various parameters to make this work with the mib2??

              thank you again in advance.

              • Hello,

I finally managed to install Lowline RVC, everything is working OK : when reverse gear is engaged, camera pops up and MIB STD2 displays the rear view with static lines.

I installed a manual switch, in order to activate the rear camera without reverse gear :

+12V from reverse light or +12V from car (switch) ==> to +12V camera

                With this switch installed :
                - with reverse gear : the camera pops up and rear view is displayed.
                - without reverse gear : when I manually switch to +12V from car, the camera pops up but there is no display.

Does this mean reverse gear is required, in any case, in order to display rear view ?

                  Hector: Hi.

Alas, installing a separate 12V switch in an attempt to manually turn-ON the RVC won't work (well..not in most instances)!!

The operation of a RVC on MQB platform cars has two separate switch-ON and switch-OFF protocols.

As you have discovered, the switch-ON protocol is a 12V signal to the wire that also illuminates the right-side reverse light. However, the switch-OFF protocol for the RVC is the car's speed. Whenever the car is traveling at a speed beyond a threshold value, the RVC function will be disabled. IIRC, the default threshold speed to switch-OFF the RVC ain't high - about 10 km/h, I think!

Of course the factory set-up assumes that the signal from the reverse light won't be active when the car moves forward - but your manual RVC switch will NOT over-ride the camera's switch-OFF function without modifications to the MIB software (which normal diagnostics devices can't make)

I suspect this is the reason for your observation

                  Don

PS: Your manual RVC switch should work OK when the car is moving forward at low speed, or when stopped and not in reverse gear

                  • I have the 7N0907441B and that allows the reverse camera to be activated in forward or reverse up to 15km/h via the PDC button on the console, but the 7N0 unit has a dedicated wire for the camera, no reverse tap at all.

I think the PDC module has something to do with the activation of the camera on the MIB, maybe test pressing the button then activating the camera with your switch?

                    • @MIG: hmm........ "7NO unit"? Your car is almost certainly a PQ35/PQ36, or PQ45/PQ46 platform car!! My reply specifically related to later model MQB platform vehicles!

We are missing a vital piece of information in OP's post!!!

                      • Hello all,

                        Thanks for your replies.

I know that with the highline camera, it is possible to activate the camera without reverse gear using codings in 5F module, 6C module, Park Assist module.
So my first attempt was to install a highline camera (dynamic guidelines), but everything is so complicated, expensive (must buy the camera controller module 7N0907441B) and too difficult to make everything to work. Also camera calibration is required, that is another too difficult step for me.
Moreover, there are few information about how to install the highline controller module 7N0907441B, pinouts, wirings, etc.

I have installed a lowline camera (static guidelines) and I don't have the highline controller 7N0907441B installed.
That's why I attempted to add a switch to enable rear view camera without reverse gear engaged.
In some situations, this may help a lot.

At this stage, I can only make the rear camera pop up when switched to +12V from car, but no image from camera on screen, no PDC picture on screen.

@MIG : yes, I also did try what you suggested.
                        Test 1 :
                        1. Car is stopped. Press switch (to enable +12V from car)
                        2. Rear camera pops up straight, automatically, but no video from camera, and no PDC display.
                        3. Press Parking Assist button => PDC picture is displayed on screen, but still no video from rear camera

Test 2 : switch to standard configuration
                        1. Car is stopped. Press switch (to enable +12V from reverse light)
                        2. Engage reverse gear
                        3. Rear camera pops up straight, automatically, with video from rear camera and PDC picture displayed on screen

Some pictures of the manual switch :

                        • You need the 'reverse gear selected' CAN message to be sent on the bus for the MIB2STD to show the reverse image.
Just switching on the camera can't do this. You'd need to make your own emulator to send this message on command if you want to show the image.

Yes I added a Helix amp tapped into the high side outputs on my stock Dynaudio amp feeding a 80A035382A (A is 100W x 2, Non A is 40w) fits in the stock 18" wheel in the boot.

Kamold fitted a 5C6035456C and 5N0035591 to his setup, check it out here Kamold's R36

If you don't already have Dynaudio the amp is a good upgrade.

                                hello Mig,

thank you for the reply; my mk6 R already had the dynaudio system and i have the 8 channel amp; but if i were to go the route you went, do i need to upgrade to the 10 channel amp??? or can i use the existing 8 channel one and get a helix sub/amp like you did?

also if i went that route, where would i source a plug and wiring for the said Helix sub/amp...as ones i found on ebay come without.

also would you be kind and let me knwo how you went about doing the wiring?? i'm kind of NOOB when it comes to wiring stuff and/or splicing into existing wires to make it work

                                thanks again in advance.
