I was lucky that I didn't need to wait for one to be built. Before I placed the order, the dealer looked up any dealer held stock or stock in transit. I was lucky that the Ambition Plus wagon with DSG in silver was on a boat to another Victorian dealer, so he just swapped a car that the other dealer wanted for the Octavia. I could have the car at the start of July but i specified to have the car delivered in early
August, so it has been sitting in the dealer's yard all these time... lol

I have only got dealer fitted front parking sensors and security wheel bolts as extra.

I also had the previous model RS Liftback and used to take it camping with a trailer. Once a year there was a boys' "fishing" (ie. not much fishing done) trip to Brou Lake. The access is over muddy tracks for a couple of kilometres and, provided I took it slow and drove around the deeper holes, I never had a problem - it just meant that the guys with 4WDs were already set up and drinking before I arrived.

It's almost like bait & switch selling. You go to buy a Skoda, get told there's a huge wait so then you go to VW that have showrooms & holding yards full of stock.
I'm not buying a vw. Cars aren't big enough. Can't get manual in the ones that are.

Age it's almost like bait and switch though..... Our allocation is terrible.

            • Right, so after a crisis attributed to waiting on car delivery times which no-one could pin down, the missus and i (after being momentarily coerced by a beautiful, throaty, 5.5 sec VF SSV wagon for less money but almost certainly far higher running costs) went into our dealer with many, many questions on the RS. Nailed down the problems, as far as the dealer was very recently informed, with delays and option discrepancies, and made some hard choices... So, we've made the plunge into RS territory.

From what we've been advised build issues are solely attributed to the VCC, Reverse camera and black pack, but the big delay is ultimately with the camera installation and supply (all build orders pushed back to January). So, in our dealers estimation (which we stated would affect the sale if a long way off the mark) without those particular accessories we could still expect delivery by January. We also managed to get options otherwise mentioned here as 'pack-only'.

So, we got a moon white RS TSI DSG wagon with 18' Geminis, black pack, pano sunroof, Canton sound, leather, alarm, roof bars and netting system for $46,700. We'll be happy if we get it before February. Obviously. Still debating the choice of metallic white over flat though.... Looks great in sunlight!

*EDIT. There was (is?) conjecture between the missus and i (we both love manuals) about getting the manual still. I couldn't quite make the case that the extra economy/performance was better than the otherwise ease of driving/ apparent eventual resale value... Was a very close thing from my POV. Worth the extra $2.5k? I'm not convinced....

                • It seems the waits are just as long in GTI land for factory orders?

                  • In case anyone was wondering what the pano roof looked like (decent internal and external photos, which seem a little scarce) one of the guys on Briskoda answered my question, and linked me to some detailed pictures he took of his wagon with a pano roof.

Helps a lot in visualising what it looks like from inside and outside. (vRS has sunset glass, so roughly 35% tint on side rear windows - to give an indication on how dark the sunroof glass is.) The glass from my investigation is UV blocking, as well as heat blocking (unlike some sunroof makers.)

                    • Complete newbie here, had been tossing up between a Golf Wagon or Octavia wagon so reading here really helped, and decided I didn't want to wait for a brand new octavia to be built and shipped, so I was lucky enough to secure an ex-demo 2014 Candy White 132TSI Elegance Wagon with the Tech pack and panoramic sunroof for ~42K should pick it up at the end of the week... my first Skoda and first euro car, I think it is a good start to a hopefully long relationship

                        • People who have taken delivery of their Octavia RS TSI and TDI could you please confirm if your cars have an insulation of any form under the bonnet usually clipped on. Over at Briskoda people are reporting that this is present in the TDIs and absent in the TSIs.

                          The part numbers are:
5E0863831 - Sound absorber for engine lid

8E0863727A - Retaining clips if they don't come with the above

That's normal has has been for a few years. TDIs need the insulation because they are noisier & need to heat up quicker.

Even back in 2008 my Elegance TSI didn't have insulation but the TDIs all had it no matter what spec.

Retaining clips come with the pad. They were ~AUD110 last time I looked. You can get them for AUD50-60 delivered from Alibaba.

the back of the insulation pad starts to droop near the plenum after 4-5 years - esp if it gets wet.

                            • Thanks for the confirmation Brad. Do you think it is a good idea to have it for a TSI?

Also, I've noticed that the VW TSIs (GTI) have them. Strange that they do and the Skoda doesn't.
