Could someone tell me if the RS Octavia will have XDS?
And what is it? Something to do with the diff..... now... I'm not a car expert but funny thing is I love cars! (i'm not that technical) but this is what everyone raved on about when the MK VI GTI Golf came out... some fancy pants technology differential. Now the MK VII GTI Golf has more tech..
I take it the new Octavia RS we have all bought/ordered will have this XDS ... there is a brief line in the RS brochure but nothing else...
XDS is the traction control system brakes the wheel losing traction, same sort of tech is in your Polo GTI dude
Yeah, sorry forgot skoda called XDS "XDL". I had it on my 2010 MY11 FL RS.....was OK, but no where near as good as a proper diff (mechanical LSD - preferably a torsen one). I've been for a spin in a renault megane (with a torsen LSD) and it was amazing how good that FWD was!
2014 Skoda Ambition Plus 103TSI candy white wagon, 6sp Manual, Tech pack, Panoramic Sunroof, 18's, Colour Maxidot, Comfort BT
Ordered 07 May 14 (Wk 15), Built Wk 37, Loaded 27/9 (wk 39), Docked 12/11 (wk 46), DELIVERED! 12/12 (end of wk 50 - 7 months + 1 week).
I think the GTI PP has a mechanical LSD......but the RS definitely doesnt. Considering the RS is many, many thousands cheaper than the GTI (not to mention, bigger and more practical) you could easily afford to buy a top end aftermarket torsen LSD and have it installed if it bothered you that much (around 2-2.5K).
I'm not sure on the R - perhaps it might get a viscous LSD on one of the ends, but with AWD it has less traction issues to begin with.

I wonder if the suspension spec for Aus delivered cars here in Australia match the Euro specs?
I know we have pot luck regarding tyres. All of the Octavias I saw in the German lots had Continental. Here I have seen a variety of tyres fitted to Octavias - even an Ambition on Nexens!
Yes, our suspension is the same as theirs (i.e. only a 132TSI elegance or RS gets the multi link rear - just like ours).
I've only heard (so far) of Conti's and bridgestones - although that review mentioned michelins. I'd be (rightfully) pissed if it came with nexens.....i'm hoping for CS2's (5's would be nicer, but skoda seems to have vast reserves of CS2's on hand) the last RS had them and they were decent (abeit fast wearing!).
Ideally of course, they would be Michelin PS3's or Goodyear Eagle F1's.....
EDIT: that review does have flaws though - it says 32K plus onroads as tested, and that the mazda 6 is only 2.5K more......then quotes the mazda 6 as 36.7K + on roads (i.e. 4K more expensive).......good maths right there....
Comparing a practically fully optioned skoda versus the pov pack 6 isnt really a good comparo either.....
Me - I'll accept the slightly harsher ride from the cheap rear suspension - its a very cheap car after all!
The 19" Black's for the RS come with either Pirelli PZero or Dunlop Sport Maxx TT, both are pretty good tyres. CS2's do seem to wear really fast, so if I was on 18's I'd prefer the Bridgestones.
I would imagine this is not a true Black Pack 19" option since it still has chrome finishings on the windows. Perhaps the dealer ordered the 19 as spares and used whatever tyres they could find for this demonstrator
